Anyone want to join the students on the 24th?

It's not just my son's education, it's the grossly unfair child benefit cuts and worrying about the sure start centres and the children that won't get the much needed cash injections we got when S was born, or the loss of the £250 child trust funds that has started me putting in as much as we can spare to make sure he has something when it comes to University. David Cameron says we will be robbing our children by taking on all this debt but surely he is already robbing them now.

Dare we join them?

no any of these selfish thugs that do go should be arrested and banned from further education.
re child benefit only first child should get it and only married couples

kikimurphy · 12/11/2010 10:19

Obviously @thereiver doesn't want to go. Anyone else out there a mite interested?

Hoping to go and to anything else that'll show this disgusting gov that we're not going to accept their cuts lieing down!

kate1956 · 12/11/2010 12:49

oops sorry spelling moment there!

dotnet · 12/11/2010 14:06

I'll keep my eyes peeled then, and will do my best to slough off my middle aged apathy and get myself over to - wherever.

Now, where is my (parchment) banner? Ooh, I can feel the 'youngness' of it all invigorating me as we speak. Yesss (clenched fist)

grannieonabike · 20/11/2010 15:51

Wish I could, but I shall be there in spirit. I'm waiting till I retire - and then I shall go on marches and demos and change the world!

Good luck to those of you who are going. You have the right and duty to protest. Don't let the b...s get you down.Smile

complimentary · 21/11/2010 13:38

I would go, but if there are any socialist workers banners present, it might upset me!

grannieonabike · 21/11/2010 13:44

Take your own banner, and wave it with pride. It's not just Socialists who benefit from education.

granted · 24/11/2010 20:44

So proud of the students today. Would have been there if I could - if my Dcs weere old enough, I'd be v proud if they were there.

Maybe the next generation will have the courage to fight for rights we're too apathetic to fight for.

kate1956 · 24/11/2010 23:03

Also very proud of the students, especially my daughters who led two-thirds of their school out, gave interviews on the radio, and then went into leeds university occupation to show solidarity - they are 16 and 12 yrs old and want to fight for the future of education. Next day of action is the 30th!

2shoes · 25/11/2010 10:35

no in a word.
I am fed up with seeing the havoc these selfish "students" causing havoc.
surely if they care so much they would be in lessons......
why should my dd suffer while they get a heap education, they won't have to pay for it until they are working.

AliceWorld · 25/11/2010 10:48

I know it's late, but I would have said yes, and also there will be more general protests against the cuts soon I think. The city where I am has a coalition against the cuts who are planning action. I think I heard somewhere it all starts in the new year. I'm sure most cities will have similar coalitions.

And love the sound of your daughters Kate Grin

granted · 25/11/2010 11:02

Wow, Kate - fantastic - you must be v proud of your dds!

Fantastic to see the kids of today not just beng walked all over by the politicians.

HowsTheSerenity · 25/11/2010 11:13

DC 16yrs was in town last night. Gave some interviews too. It seems that a lot of the younger kids have not read anything in regards to the issue and are merely there to have a good time. At least DC knew what he was talking about. Although hopefully next time he will listen to me at take a fully charged phone, coat and food!

I cannot agree with the violence and I think that the only way forward is to cut the amount of degrees on offer. Some degrees these days are of no use to anyone. If you are doing somethat that benefits society (such as teaching, nursing, law etc etc etc) then it should be free or subsidised but if you are doing something such as a BAchelor of Football coaching then pay full price.

CheeseCheese · 25/11/2010 11:15

i am STUNNED parents let kids go after seeing what hapened last week

dotnet · 25/11/2010 14:16

Very pleased students and schoolchildren are keeping up the pressure. I did see a few wrong'uns at the London demonstration, but having said that, you get that in all walks of life. The crowd was, in any case, put under huge and unwarranted pressure by the police. I would guess damage at the London demo may have run into the (low) thousands of pounds, whereas what we the public are actually having the pleasureof paying for is the monstrous overkill of yesterday's 'security' presence - millions of £££, I'd guess, spent in one day on helicopters, horses, police vans and thousands of police - a Londoner told me he had never seen so many. Just crazy. And why do they always use the word 'violence' when what they actually mean is 'vandalism'?

granted · 25/11/2010 16:51

If my kids were old enough, I'd be v proud if they went.

2shoes · 25/11/2010 16:54

so the police that got hurt, were just vandalized...

I work in the public sector and went along to a rally last week and was pleased (and quite touched) to see a group of students also joining (very peacefully) the rally.
I'm happy to support students on this as the fee increases are going to be horribly divisive and mean many bright kids will be denied the chance to go to Uni, or will be saddled with debt for years to come to pay for it.

kate1956 · 26/11/2010 23:00

Third day of action Sunday 5th December 12 noon all around the country - so that parents, friends, relatives and everybody else can join in!
