BBC's heartbreaking victim of "Tory cuts" exposed as a total scrounger

Benefits scrounger James Van-Cliff, who the BBC tried valiantly to make a sob story out of, has been exposed for what he really is - a layabout who quit his job because he was better off on the dole.

Well done the Sun! And shame, shame and shame on the BBC!

MissAnneElk But no-one - no-one - has to pay for the Sun if they don't want it. The Sun is biased. So is the Mirror. No-one is forced to buy either.

We are forced to pay for the BBC. It should therefore take its supposed independence more seriously.

DuelingFanjo · 01/11/2010 11:04

Guess who makes you pay for the BBC?

The Government!

MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:04

oh no - actually you're right spotty - it just says he and his girlfriend were in the flat when they visited - not that they live together.

According to entitledto (which is generally pretty accurate) - no he wouldn't get WTC, but he would have some help with his rent and his council tax if he were working, and would be about £13 a week better off in his £93 a week job.

So about £50 a month better off - which for a single person with no dependants 'aint too bad.

MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:06

So you admit The Sun is biased but you think it's ok for The Sun to talk bullshite but not the BBC??

Blackduck · 01/11/2010 11:06

why did I just KNOW the OP would be LFN.....

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:07

DuelingFanjo Yes, I am very glad that the government will cut the licence fee by 16% over the next 6 years, though it doesn't go far enough in my opinion.

Of the other hand, Labour aren't being too shy about "standing up for the BBC" - I wonder why?

OP posts:
Lovecat · 01/11/2010 11:07

Blackduck has just beaten me to it...

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:09

MaMoTTaT Yes, exactly.

The Sun is biased.
That is OK.

The BBC is biased.
That is not OK.

It is OK for the Sun to talk bullshite.
It is not OK for the BBC to talk bullshite.

The difference is that I am forced to pay for the BBC. I am not forced to pay for the Sun.

Glad that is now clear :)

OP posts:
MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:10

So you accept that The Sun is talking bullshite in that article then..............

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:10

MaMoTTaT No...

OP posts:
DooinMeCleanin · 01/11/2010 11:11

Yes you are right Spotty, you have to be 25 or over and working more than 30 hours to get WTC. I just checked their site. That seems a little unfair imo. What makes a single, childless 22 yo less deserving than a single, childless 25 yo? I wonder if he would have decided he was better off working if he was able to recieve WTC?

He would still have been able to claim HB though wouldn't he? He'd have just had to pay more towards his rent.

Youngsters who leave school early or with few/no qualifications should be given an incentive to start work based training or complete trades courses (i.e plumbing/electrician/brickie etc). Would save a lot of money in the long run on benefits payments.

MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:11

and no - no-one forces you to have a TV.

I NEVER watch news on the TV, I use the internet (although I do have a TV for which I pay my license, and CiTV, CBBC, and CBeebies are my saviours Grin).

If I didn't have children I would probably ditch the TV totally.

I have not (afaik) missed out on any major news story because I don't watch news on the TV

MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:12

you do't accept it - even though their figures don't add up?

Jaquelinehyde · 01/11/2010 11:15

Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha are we really citing The Sun as a credible source now?

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave · 01/11/2010 11:15

So "Well done the Sun!" for talking bullshite, just because you aren't forced to pay for it?

Hey, I can garner acres of praise as well, then...

Armies of illegal immigrants have been coming over the channel from France and stealing odd socks, which is why we can never find a matched pair.

Union militants among Santa's elves are threatening Christmas by planning a 24-hour lightening strike on Christmas Eve.

All total bullshite, but not only am I not forcing anyone to pay for it but it is completely free rather than 25p or whatever the Sun costs these days. As this is the yardstick of quality, extra specially well done me, with three cheers on top.

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:15

MaMoTTaT I accept that he might not actually be better off in work - for which, of course, we can only blame Labour. However, for whatever reason - high marginal tax/benefit withdrawal rates, sheer laziness because of a culture of entitlement, or whatever, he has decided to quit his job and live on benefits as a lifestyle choice.

OP posts:
longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:16

Oops sorry. First sentence should read "better off out of work".

OP posts:
MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:16

LOL JH - it would appear so - apparently they are now more credible than the BBC

Personally I'd rather read the Daily Hate than The Sun if I had to choose between the two.

At least the latter does occasionally have half newsworthy items in it if you look hard enough Grin

MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:17

according to the always telling the truth, getting it's facts right, never pays for stories Sun........

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:18

GuyFawkesIsMyLoveSlave The Sun, just as with any other media outlet, is bound by the libel laws.

It spins stories towards its own editorial viewpoint. So does the BBC. That is acceptable for the Sun. It is not acceptable for the BBC.

OP posts:
MaMoTTaT · 01/11/2010 11:18

and are you SERIOUSLY telling me that £51 is a "lifestyle" - after you've paid your water, gas, electric, bought food??

come on!!!

DooinMeCleanin · 01/11/2010 11:19

OMG GuyFawkes. Thank you for that info. We ahve a drawer full off odd socks. Who do I need to report it to and can I claim for replacement socks off anyone?

Sock stealing immigrants. Who'd have thought it? It sounds almost impossible, but it must be true, if t'interent says it is Shock

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:19

MaMoTTaT Well, he has made the choice to quit work and live on benefits. He obviously thinks it is a better lifestyle, otherwise he would try to find another job, or at least go on a training course.

Longfingernails

Thanks for pointing this out. I've started turning off the BBC because the left-wing bias is getting ridiculous. A couple of weeks ago they were talking about the deficit and cuts and said 'now let's take a few minutes to remember how we got into this mess' to which I thought - hallelujah, finally the BBC are going to mention that Labour put us in this mess and the Tories are doing what they have to - but no, it was 3 minutes of shots of the City and bankers. FFS the banks did not cause the national debt, Gordon Brown's mismanaging of the economy, over spending, coupled with a global recession...

Argh. Bloody BBC. Cut the lot of them Wink

longfingernails · 01/11/2010 11:21

OK have to go now but will be back, proably tonight.
