In the emergency budget it was hinted at that families earning over £25k with one child would lose CTC but the details were vague.

Do we know anymore now
What about those with more than one child?

Child Tax Credit wasn't specifically mentioned today although there was a reference to something child-related in WTC... it was going up, in fact. In the budget CTC was abolished from January for families with a household income over £40k. That, as far as I know, still stands.

I should have said that the planned cut to familes earning over £25k are to come in 2012/2013 I think.

Wish things werent so vague

I read something on this on the net and wondered the same. think it was mentioned at the emergency budget back in june

I hope it's not I'm fed up with sensible people being punished constantly, I wish I could afford another child but I know we couldnt support the child ourselves with one we get ctc as I am a sahm to lose it would be horrible I rely on it for the weekly shop :(

People that have child after child get ridiculous handouts and they arent going to lose a penny in fact theres is going to increase its mad Confused

btw not slagging anybody of who has chose to have more children :)

Um, people on benefits with lots of children are going to lose out, drastically, when the benefits cap comes in. For the first time we as a society are going to be happy to say that we'll punish young children for the 'crimes' of their parents.

pithyslicker · 21/10/2010 10:15

I think be careful what you say as it could come back to bite you. If a couple have 4 children and can afford to, but hit hard times should they be punished?

bytheMoonlight · 21/10/2010 10:15

People on low incomes will also lose out when the housing benefit cap is bought in Rhian.

And after yestaerdays spending review, I believe those who make it a lifesyle choice not to work will be less affected than those on low incomes

Thank you bythemoonlight :)

If you can afford 4 children without struggling at all a couple of years ago im sure you cannot be that hard hit now you must be earning alot.

They need to help out families on low incomes but there is some people on low incomes that have lots of children knowing they cannot afford them and they are going to be laughing all the way to the bank as there going to be better off with the increase to ctc but people who have one child knowing thats what they can afford are punished and have it taken away its ridiculous!

For the record I am going to be able to keep ctc for the time being but as soon as I find a pt job we we will lose it and its unfair on people like that :)

Rhian82 · 21/10/2010 11:27

Umm? what if you could afford four children a few years ago, but due to the recession both you and your partner have lost your jobs, and have been unable to find new ones - or have had to take new ones that pay significantly less?

For a lot of people who need benefits, it's not a 'lifestyle choice', it's something that helps keep food on the table when drastic things happen in life.

bytheMoonlight · 21/10/2010 11:55

I'm well aware of that Rhian, and its those people who are being hit hardest whilst those who do choose to make it a lifestyle choice seem to be not being hit at all
