Alan Johnson has rebelled against Red Ed on the graduate tax - and it seems like he has won the support of the Shadow Cabinet!

EdM really is looking quite hapless, isn't he? He didn't want to appoint Ed Balls or Yvette Cooper because he didn't want them building up a rival power base, but he can't even get his newly appointed stooge to toe the line!

The Uk's education system is the envy of many, from nursery to university ALL can have access if they want to. It is wrong to penalise this generation for errors made in spending of Public Money by past generations. Also it is wrong to expect the middle classes, some of whom are on modest salaries and recieve no benefits of any kind, to fund higher education opportunities for others' children when they have their own children to fund. Higher education should be available to all who are capable of studying at that level, those that then profit from this education will be contributing in the form of higher taxes once earning. Those that are by definition poor at the start of a university education will probably not be once working due to the opportuniuty they have received at the State's expense. Let's stop targetting the middle-earners for a change and look to suporting ALL young people in their choice of work/college/university so that they can all become productive citizens.
