An idea for David Cameron to save money

Chinghehuang · 06/10/2010 15:21

Before Mrs.Nhengu (Gamu's mother) and her family leave the UK voluntarily I think it would be great idea for David Cameron to meet her and have a look at her completed benefit application forms for Child Tax Credit & Working Tax Credit. According to news reports Mrs.Nhengu has broken immigration rules by claiming these benefits she was not entitled to and has to leave the UK.
If Mr.Cameron could just have a quick look at some of these forms it might give him an idea on how this is happening and how easy it is for people from overseas to play the system, it could prevent other false claimants in the future and save the UK tax payer thousands or millions of pounds.

Back on the 'foreigners robbing us blind' message, eh? You should change the record.

foxytocin · 06/10/2010 16:05

And your source inside the Home Office for this gem of information is?

Does, xenophobia means anything to you?

Chinghehuang · 06/10/2010 17:08

It's in the news today, nothing against foreigners, just against people ripping off the benefit system in general, hopefully lessons can be learned from this case, Britain is not a bottomless pit and surely cannot sustain giving benefits indefinitely to people from overseas who are not entitled to them, there are clearly weaknesses in our system.
Why do some see this as xenophobia, don't you care that your taxes are being given to false claimants? Don't you think we should have a more thorough system in place so this can't happen again?

Chil1234, maybe by going on the X-Factor was a last ditch attempt to stay in the UK, I doubt this story about her mother would have seen the light of day had Gamu not appeared on the show. But it highlights the discrepancies in our system and like it or not they need be addressed regardless of nationality.

@chinghehuang... Fraud is a criminal offence whether it's committed by a peer of the realm with a family tree stretching back to the Norman Conquest ... or whether it's someone more recently arrived. We have a police force and we have other agencies dedicated to tracking down fraudsters of all persuasions and I support their work. I just don't like the way all your examples seem to boil down to 'foreigners fiddling benefits'.

Chinghehuang · 06/10/2010 18:07

Chil1234, I understand what you are saying but I only quote what I read in the papers and hear on the news, I love living in a multi-cultural society but why is Britain a soft touch for so many when it comes to our benefit system, if you read the comments posted on the Daily Mail website regarding Gamu's mother I think you'll see that most people are angry about this, not just me.

OP posts:
Chil1234 · 06/10/2010 18:19

Sorry but everyone on the Daily Mail website is angry about immigrants/benefit claimants on a 24/7 basis. I'd consider my politics right of centre but that newspaper is so far right & so xenophobic that I often find it downright offensive.

What I particularly hate is when they find an example of - let's pick one - a woman that has never earned a living, popped out 5 children by 5 different men, lives in a whopping great house, gets £££ in benefits and spends the money on facelifts and Gucci handbags..... and then presents the case as typical. They're obsessed with this idea of the 'undeserving poor' and I don't like it.

complimentary · 06/10/2010 19:04

Foreigners fiddling the dole, what a cheek ! It's bad enough with the indigenous fiddling.
It's not xenophobia to not want illegal immigrants to fiddle the dole is it? Chingheaung, I don't think a multi-cultural society benefits this country, and in any case it's not with only 5 percent of the population from ethnic minorities. Some of the replies to your post are horse shite, as uusual bringing out the old
cheshnut of 'racism'. Sorry I won't be horse whipped into agreeing with anyone who thinks foreigners should fiddle the benefits system.
Chili 1234 Why is the OP asked about xenophobia? A phobia according to the Oxford English dictionary is an 'irrational fear of something or someone' are you suggesting that chinghehuang runs down the street screaming when she sees a foreigner, it's the same as Islamaphobia, Homophobia [yawn]
all terminology used to get people to shut their mouths on issues some people would prefer brushed under the carpet!

Chil1234 · 06/10/2010 19:23

Xenophobia = 'fear, hatred or suspicion of foreigners or strangers or of anything foreign or strange' It's a very ordinary word.

If any of Chinghehuang's recent posts had once mentioned home-grown benefit fiddlers I would believe they were genuinely concerned about the public coffers. But as they seem to be solely determined to whip up 'fear hatred and suspicion of foreigners' in every single post, I think the description is accurate.

Chinghehuang · 06/10/2010 21:25

Chil1234, If you care to read all of my posts on other CB related threads you will see that I mention people I know who are taking the benefit system for a ride and they are not foreigners. You clearly do not read all of my posts, I am not out to create "fear, hatred and suspicion" as you put it, I am merely stating factual situations that are happening right under our noses at the expense of the taxpayer.
Would you prefer me not to mention the nationalities next time so as not to upset you?

I think Mr Cameron should save money on Botox - have you seen his forehead!!!

vix79 · 06/10/2010 21:51

I might be wrong but I think what Chinghehuang is saying is that it has been published that she claimed and was given benefits that she was not entitled to, I don't think it was specific to Mrs Nhengu as such, just using as an example (although please correct me if i'm wrong Blush). One way of saving money is to identify how she was able to claim these, when she was not entitled.

If you can stop people claiming things that they are not entitled to in the first place, then you don't have to go to the expense and hassle of trying to get it back from them.

Chinghehuang · 06/10/2010 22:18

vix79, absolutely right it is an example and a suggestion as to how we can prevent further people claiming benefits they are not entitled to. Glad you agree Smile

Shadeofviolet. I met Cameron in February, and he did indeed have a nice unlined forehead. I did not suspect botox, as he could still smile with his eyes! I'm biased anyway, as I found him charming!Grin

Chinghehuang · 07/10/2010 23:05

This case is interesting, today it has been reported that Gamu's mother did not wrongly claim tax credits according to her family solicitor. This raises more questions imo, if the home office are saying that she did indeed claim wrongly but the Inland Revenue & Accountant say she did not then what on earth is going on? Who is right and who is wrong, think Mr.Cameron should have an enquiry into this mess Confused.

OP posts:
plainchocolate · 27/11/2010 22:17

She didn't wrongly claim any benefits she got working tax credits i.e. money back on tax she had paid our goverment while working as a nurse. Some immigrants are allowed working tax credits but some aren't which seems ridiculous. Living in Scotland I can tell you that African immigrants are few and far between so she was probably advised to claim it by her manager or other single mum colleague and possibly didn't realise she wasn't meant to. I think we all know someone who has been asked to pay back some working or child tax credits as the system is such a confusing bureaucratic mess- doesn't make you a criminal does it? Now it looks like the visa refusal might be down to some other bureacratic mistake and they might stay I expect they could pay it back quite quickly with Gamu's popularity!

No one likes benefit cheats but lets stick up for working mums especially those doing it alone!

newwave · 28/11/2010 09:41

Read the Daily Mail Pah! if they were as interested in the rich and powerful avoiding millions and even billions as they were in benifit claiments then I would have more time for that awful rag.

If Flyte had said the readers of the Mail snould not be "breeding" he may have had a point :o

pastyeater · 28/11/2010 11:18

Well said Chil 1234.

A Biscuit for the OP.

wendihouse22 · 07/12/2010 09:55

I'm not a Mail reader. I'm not a racist.....after all, we're all "foreigners" if you go back far enough.

I agree that it's not about a FOREIGNER fiddling the system, making claims to which they're not entitled. We have enough home-grown fraudsters, in every walk of life. I think the MP expenses scandal illustrates that nicely. My arguement is this....we do not have infinitesimal recourses. Have a quick look at the Special Needs forum and see how the cuts are going down there. WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CASH TO GO AROUND. Reducing disability to kids.........KIDS!! to help get us out of this F**king mess. Now THAT is criminal.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 07/12/2010 13:11

I hope that Mr Cameron has people to look at the forms for him. I don't think the cuts have gone that far yet.

wendihouse22 · 07/12/2010 17:49

TheCoalition.....?? You don't think the cuts have gone that far yet? Meaning what?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 07/12/2010 18:01

I mean I don't think that The Prime Minister is working the Downing Street switchboard and reviewing the contents of each DSS form.

kate1956 · 07/12/2010 23:18

Chinghehuang - what a load of rubbish! - why don't you concentrate on the millions in unclaimed benefits that people are entitled to rather than spouting right wing daily mail nonsense!
