Liberal Judaism

I'm interested in finding out about Liberal Judaism but there is no local synagogue.

I'm interested in how much Hebrew is used in rituals and whether I would need to learn some Hebrew to start attending the occasional service.

Been feeling the need to find out more for ages... can anyone help?

I realise that you haven't got a local synagogue but could you contact the nearest synagogue to you and see what they say? Or check out the websites of some of the big ones in Manchester and London. (I'm not Jewish BTW but I have looked at some of the websites of the reform synagogues.)

From my experience at Oxford liberal synagogue, there is quite a lot of Hebrew but it was not essential to know it, although tbh I did feel a bit uncomfortable not knowing much and therefore not being able to join in, especially at the Kaddish afterwards which is shared with the Orthodox and where I did feel ashamed not to know any. I felt more comfortable not knowing much Hebrew at Maidenhead Reform synagogue, where the congregation is so eclectic that more people don't know any! Also, both congregations ran Hebrew classes/offered tuition - I certainly felt a lot better once I had learned a couple of prayers and at least the Hebrew alphabet. HTH.
