Any Theology Geeks out there?

Cos I just want to

I have managed to arrange childcare/accomodation (almost!!) and I am going to London for 2 days to a conference where Jurgen Moltmann and Miroslav Volf are the keynote speakers!!

Heck, I feel holy just thinking about it!!!!

My DH says he is very ! Especially of Volf, who is, apparently, his favourite.

purpleturtle · 16/05/2010 22:30

(I, on the other hand, know that my head would explode within about half an hour)

I am a much lesser theology geek.

weegiemum · 16/05/2010 22:33

Moltmann is my favourite.

I don't care if my head explodes, I will die happy .

If your dh is free Thursday and Friday its at Holy Trinity Brompton and costs £75.

Accomodation idea just fell through. Don't care. Will sleep in the porch!!

(MY dh is more of a theology geek than me too but can't get off work!!!!)

I hope your head doesn't explode. That would be messy.

DH is not free, because he is away at a conference Monday to Wednesday already.

katycarr · 16/05/2010 22:45

I would seriously love to go to this, am working sadly.

weegiemum · 16/05/2010 22:47

Oh its nice to knwo I am not the onlly Moltmann/Volf fan on MN!

I saw that too and am very (mea culpa). Can't really afford it, plus trying to arrange childcare to go would be a nightmare! I am a big fan of Volf, and did one of my essays on his work.

weegiemum · 17/05/2010 08:11

Oh Mary it would have been great if you could have come - I've got a couple of friends who can help out with the childcare which is excellent .

Anyone got any idea how to find somewhere to stay in London? I've never been on my own

Can I just say I know someone who knows Volf? When I said I liked his book "Exclusion and Embrace" to a priest I know, she said "I know him, I studied with him, I'll tell him you liked his book"

(yes I know I'm a name dropper!)

BelleDameSansMerci · 17/05/2010 08:43

weegiemum have a look www.laterooms.com/. You might get lucky and find somewhere very nice for a very reduced rate.

weegiemum · 17/05/2010 08:51

I'm getting a bit excited.

I'm rubbish at travelling on my own - just rotten. But it has do be done and I have a good reason for it!!

Will find somewhere nice to stay in walking distance and just relax and enjoy it!

Dh is now making "well I suppose we could get locum for a couple of days" noises! He is !!

It would be much nicer with him!

OP posts:
MaryBS · 17/05/2010 10:53

That would be brilliant if he could go too - tell him its a once in a lifetime experience, and he'll regret it if he doesn't!

BelleDameSansMerci · 17/05/2010 11:13

And, think of how grateful the locum would be for the work in these straitened times... You would be spreading your good fortune.

madhairday · 17/05/2010 12:00

Oh I am rather partial to Moltmann. Hadn't come across Volf before Mary introduced me to him and he sounds interesting. So am . My theology brain has shrunk too much lately and could really do with some airing - you'll have to report back Have a great time.
