I know nothing of dream interpretation, and i have never really been into it either, but ive been having a very strange and unbelievably persistant one for YEARS now. I know it sounds very odd, and i dont understand how, but it really does seem as if im trying to be told something, and im just not getting it. Could my brain be 'stuck' on soomething im overlooking? My dream is of finding hidden rooms in my home, sometimes its houses i dont live in, and never have, but in my dream i do live there and i discover basements full of bedrooms and bathrooms sometimes they are beautiful and well decorated, sometimes they are old and havent been in for years, sometimes i discover room that are decorated very old fashioned, and looks like they were used years ago, shut off and have only just been discovered again. These dream almost harrass me, sometimes having them 3/4 times a week! sometimes once a month but they never go away and as i said ive been having them, with these variations for years!! Im truly at a loss! please help! x

Wombs. Apparently. I have this one too.

It could be you feel you are missing out on opportunities, miss friends and/or family whom you don't see very often, or who are gone.

I say this because you are discovering and re-discovering things (things which are possibly more interesting than the rooms/homes you know about).

However, only you know what you might be missing or hankering for! Perhaps you could also think about books you have read, whose settings might have influenced you. For example, Gothic novels might have left you with a strong association between ornate furniture/architecture and hidden rooms, and the excitement of secrets and mysteries -again, something you are hankering for.

Is any of this ringing any bells?

Wombs?? in what way? how? And yes WV some of it does ring a bell, my sister moved to oz 2 years ago and i miss her like mad but i have been having these dreams long before she left. I have to confess i dont actually read much, never have! The thing with these dreams though is that they are houses i have never lived in, and i really dont recognise them, nothing inside is familiar to me outside the dream and the rooms i discover are filled with things ive never seen before. Its like im having someone elses dreams....

There is always television, cinema and magazines, to have given you the starting point for these places.

But could you be craving novelty (even if it's retro novelty), or different things and places? If so, it would be pretty gutting to realise this in the middle of an economic mess, right when it would not be sensible to spend, spend, spend!

Did you ever move house/county/country, meaning there was a different way your life could have gone?

AMumInScotland · 16/03/2010 15:06

I think your house in the dream is your life - and if it feels like your house, then it is, even if you don't actually recognise it IYSWIM?

So, the rooms are parts of your life which are not in everyday use - how do you feel about the rooms when you find them? Are you happy to have found something new, or worried about what is there, or annoyed that they aren't what you like?

I think your subconscious is telling you (repeatedly!) that there are more parts to your life than the ones which you are currently using - some ready for use, some needing a bit of sprucing up, but all there and available to you if you just go for it.

Icanttellyou · 16/03/2010 16:11

Hmm that sounds interesting muminscotland!! I have to say, most of the time im aprehensive about whats in there, and i always make sure i have someone with me, almost like i know they're there, but dont want to go in until i have company iyswim?
WV - ive lived here all my life, i see what you mean about getting it from books, tv etc..... hmmm

Icanttellyou · 16/03/2010 16:13

Sorry, have changed my name!! lol

AMumInScotland · 16/03/2010 16:44

So, you're apprehensive about these new things/places and want someone with you. Maybe that's true in real life too? There's things you'd like to branch out into doing or trying, but you'd like to have someone there with you to reassure you that it's ok? I think it's interesting that, even though you're apprehensive, you do want to go into the rooms - you don't just lock them or board them up or go back to the rooms you are used to, you want to see them, even though you're unsure about it.

I think you should have a think about what in real life are the "rooms" you would like to go into, and see if you can find ways of doing it, maybe getting a friend to come along too.

thanks amuminscotland that sounds really interesting! im going to go and have a think about that!....

I also have these dreams often. I find myself in various rooms in different houses, all different and the outcomes are different in each one. The rooms you visit are external versions of yourself from various points in your life. The important thing to remember is how you felt in each room and what you found in it. Childhood toys would mean a hankering after your own childhood, or a childhood event in your life that made you grow up too quickly and miss out on your own childhood. Dusty unvisited and hidden rooms would mean hidden and repressed desires and emotions that you keep locked up in yourself. Your sub conscious mind visits them in your sleep when you have no control over where your mind wanders to. Luxurious rooms and finding extra rooms in your house could mean a hankering after better things in your life, feeling you deserve more in life than you've got. Could also mean you yourself feel unloved and uncared for. I'm no dream expert but have also seeked answers to my dreams and come up with these theories.

I have had these dreams too. I believe I know what they represent and agree mostly with 'brightyoungthing'. The rooms are all a physical projection representing your own psyche or personal self, and your unconscious brain is forcing you to ramble and explore the corners of your own 'home' or psyche in your dreams because you are a little bit locked up in one part of 'you' or one narrow way of being you in your daily life. Are you a very 'nice' person and are you a good general all-rounder, maybe a bit of a people pleaser as in, not one to cause trouble or lose your temper, only in private? Would you hesitate to express unpopular views etc? Are you pushing parts of yourself down, and locking them away? It could be so natural to you that you would not even notice this, so think about it. Do you let strong personalities lead you? Are you not fully aware of the expanse of who you are. Etc. This is an instinctive interpretation by me, so please correct me if I'm wrong! X
