Baptism gifts?

My SIL has asked DH to be godfather to her DD 2years old and is also having her DS 3.5 baptised at the same time. Are there any traditions for giving gifts? Obviously we'd like to get something special for his goddaughter but also a smal gift for DN. Any suggestions? PS budget is fairly limited

Is your SIL a Christian? Would you be looking to get something like a cross/chain or children's bible, do you think?

Yes the family are all christian and we had thought we would like to get something symbolic and really linked to their baptism but weren't sure if there were any set traditions. Sil away until a few days before service so can't ask her and don't want to tread on any toes IYSWIM

There are traditional baptismal gifts, like a children's bible. Or can I suggest something from Toybox? Our church usually gives one of the small crosses as a baptismal gift.

Our DD was given a lovely silver elephant shaped moneybox as one of her christening presents. Something for her to keep for the future too as it's not too babyish.

Thanks Mary the gifts on the website are lovely and unusual so perhaps less likely that they will get anythin similar

We recently bought a CD of childrens Christian songs for a Baptism (that was well received).

i think everyone who is invited will get cross/bible.rosary beads/ religeous books/silver money boxes/other silver ornaments.

what about the kids? its their day and they are going to be opening really rubbish prezzies.

if you want to be the bestest god parents int he world ever - get an age appropriate game/toy - and somthing religeous if you have to.

seriously everyone and his dog will be getting the same sort of religeous gifts - go for something the kids would like

I hear what you're saying Custardo, but the age-appropriate toys my DD are now longer age appropriate - she was 2 at the time, she is now 10, but she still loves wearing the silver cross my mother got her. And incidently, she thinks the Toybox stuff is really cool!

DS' godfather gave him a bottle of port to be laid down every year until he is 21!

DS' godmother gave him a lovely wooden toy and some religious medals for the saints in his names.

Oh yes buy Toybox things!! I have visited a couple of Toybox projects in Guatemala and they are amazing!

I know what you mean Custardo but having just had Christmas and both kids birthdays they are overrun with toys - plus SIL would freak out. I agree with Mary, I'm afraid, would really like to get them something they can keep forever as link to their special day.
