Think DD had an out of body experience last night....

I'm hoping this is the right place to put this post!

DD (12) told me today about a dream she had last night where she was walking with her cat (who was put to sleep last June as he was very poorly with cancer). The dream was quite long winded but basically the cat and her went for a walk, the cat wasn't saying anything or miaowing but she knew what he was saying to her and he was telling her he is happy where he is.

DD said she then felt herself 'jump' in bed and that was it the dream had gone.

I'm a great believer in things like this (don't know correct terminology for this) but for the believers of you out there do you think it might be possible this is what happened to her? The cat and her were inseparable, I had never seen anything like it and DD has been very upset since he was put to sleep. Its almost as if he came back to tell her he was ok.

Oh and slightly different I'm sure I saw the same cat sitting on the bathroom basin one night when I went for a wee! Ghost cats??

Hi Wangle99

It's possible for a child to have an OBE. Although I'm not sure I believe in them I have had an OBE as a child of 4 when delirious with measles. My mum was sponging me down with cool water on the landing and I have always 'remembered' looking down on myself from the far corner of the spare room silohetted against the light. It never struck me as wierd, but it was so vivid I could even see the dust on the knobbly artex. Never had one since and not even sure if it was real even though it's been a memory of mine since childhood, but there may just be more things on this earth than we can explain :-)

i am fairly sceptical anyway, but no, i don't think it was an out of body experience.

i very often wake up with a start, like something has made me jump. I suspect it was just that

I had an out of body dream once, I remember dreaming that I was babysitting for a family at ds's school, in the kitchen with the children, then it suddenly changed. I was floating, I could see the nothern lights, it was pitch black otherwise but I could make out shadows of people. It was really weird, then I woke up.

Yes, I think it's possible.

It was just a dream, albeit a nice, comforting dream. Waking suddenly with a feeling that you've fallen, is a very common phenomenon called a hypnic jerk. It's just a neurological quirk, I think I read once that it might be a hangover from our monkey days when we slept in trees. But it doesn't mean your daughter left her body and went for a walk with your dead cat.

After she had a number of OBEs during her time as a student, Susan Blackmore spent years studying the phenomenon and eventually reluctantly concluded that they are entirely biological in origin. She's a really interesting lady - you can read more about her here: www.susanblackmore.co.uk/.

I think that when we are in a dream state our souls/conciousness/whatever goes to another place to reconnect with the energies there.
I believe that your daughter was communicating with the cat, whether it be in a dream or if she did 'leave her body'. I have had dreams where relatives have visited me and they are so very very real and can be remembered vividly afterwards. I too have woken from a few of these with a 'jerk' but I don't analyse what this means, I just accept that I woke up by jerking. However, that said, when I do wake up I note that my body feels really really heavy for some reason. I don't think it matters, I just think it's lovely experience to know that she connected with a much loved pet.
