Myu dd is reading in a church service tomorrow - it is a Cof E service - which translatrion Bible should she use

She is quite nervous.

She has read in church before but not in this church which is a Cof E church ( we are Catholics) and she is quite nervous.

I wanted to help her practice and being an RE teacher I have every tranlation of Bible to hand, but was wondering which one she would be using.

Can you ask at the big house what version they would be using. Would imagine probably the King James Bible. Sorry we won't be seeing you tomorrow but wish DD good luck from us.

If you can't check what version they usually use. Either NIV or NKJV should be fine.
unless....it is very high anglican (bells and smells) then use KJV

I don't think it matters. The bible in the church may be the original King James but that can be very hard for children to read (depending on the passage) so I would look at the passage in all your versions, pick the one she is most comfortable with and then just take that with you. Personally in our Baptist Church we use the NIV a lot and that's ok. Some people use the new King James version - that may also be an option and dh and I like the New Living translation best. When all's said and done it's the Word not the language that matters and in order for the Word to be clear she needs to be able to read it well.= so go with her preference.

Agree with Northern, find one which she feels comfotable reading and take that. They won't mind.

I have a New King James so will see if she is comfortable with it.

She is readibg Luke 2 1-7 so it is not particularly hard.

I always put whisky in a Dundee cake.

But from those two I think I would be brandy.

We have decided to use the NIV as apparantly dd had been to the library and had printed out the NIV version and has been practising it. We were told whatever translation we had at home would be fine, but Good News would be the easiest.

We are struggling with the name Quirinious though especially when it is closely followed by the word Syria.

Phonetically is fine for Quirinious - Kwi-rin - nay - ous, and Syria is well-established.

She can say them in isolation but put them near each other in a sentence and it all goes a bit Jonathan Ross.

She is in the garden now rehearsing to the dog, much to the amusement of passing ramblers.

They must think we are part of a religious cult.

We always use the NSRV. You may find that she is reading from the lectionary in which case she needs to check it out first - arrive in good time - also find out where she is standing etc Good Luck!

Yes we are arriving half an hour early so she can practice, Being a very old church there is no microphone.

I would plump for NRSV or NIV. We use NRSV. Husband is C of E deacon and his money is on NRSV.

wrt to those pronunciations, i personally would write those words on her page as the pronunciation should be.
and it doesn't matter if she says them slowly so that she doesn't get muddled (our grown-up readers at church stumble over pronunciation quite regularly!!)

She read on Sunday evening and we did just that nickel , she read beautifully I was so proud,

She pronounced Syria as Siireeaa but it sounded quite authentic.
