Anyone got any advice on how to cope with the end of therapy? Have had psychotherapy for 2 years which ended last week. Feel left without an anchor.

You get used to it, does take a while though.

how long a while? what do you do instead of therapy to stop everything going grey again?

Hmm it's hard to remember. I guess I had practised being more open and talking to people (well dh & 2 close friends) about how I was feeling so I didn't keep it all bottled up all the time.

OK. Sounds reasonable. Really miss her. A good friend suggested we go to the pub once a week instead of therapy but i'm worried i'll end up treating her as my therapist and that would NOT be a good way of treating a friend! Do you know of any support groups online?

Why did you stop?

Can you arrange to see the therapist once in a while (as opposed to a regular appointment), as a sort of touchstone?

CarGirl · 08/12/2009 22:26

No I don't I'm afraid.

Do you feel you have progressed through your therapy?

Cargirl, Yes it's been amazing. I'm so grateful and wouldn't be around today if i hadn't had these past 2 years. I'm just terrified i'll 'forget' everything i've learnt. I don't know how to guard against becomning that person again that i was 2 years ago.

Earlybird, it was NHS so it stopped when the 2 years were up, it was only offered as a year to begin with then 2 years was as long as the funding could be used for.

I don't know what you were having therapy for but something I have found absolutely invaluable over the past couple of years is the programme set out in this book helped me totally change around my perspective on things and it suggests daily practices you can do to keep yourself "on the straight and narrow" so to speak

good luck
