My dad died nearly 4 weeks ago. Since then strange things have happenned prompting me to beleive he is still around IYSWIM.

I have never been to a spititualist chruch before so have no idea what to expect - anyone have any advice?

There is on ein my town and there is a service at 6.30pm tonight, I am contemplating going, but, my dear Dad was such a cynic I can almost see him laughing at the very idea of it.

Anyone here go?

My mother went for awhile to one after my dad passed away-now she's back at a more conventional church but I think it helped her. I went with her once when visiting and didn't find anything really all that different. I think there was a bit more interaction with the congregation-in the form of testimonials or readings-can't really remember but we didn't have to participate (speak up or be read) certainly.

Did you go, DN?

What did you think?

I had a work friend who was a member of a spiritualist church, and she was training to be a clairvoyant and clairaudient when I knew her. She was very sincere and very interesting.

I'm sure spiritualism can be helpful, but I'm equally sure that sometimes it can be unhelpful.

Sorry about your dad btw. I probably think you should do whatever helps you through the day just at the moment - you lost your dad very recently, and I'm sure it is very painful for you still, and will be for some time.

Spiritualism has a solid tradition and especially in the UK I think. It began in the 1840's and some very smart and interesting people have been involved in it, including Arthur Conan Doyle and -- Does anyone know if Lloyd George was ever a spiritualist? I seem to have heard that somewhere. Anyway, spiritualism is to be taken seriously, I think, but I prefer other approaches, because I think one may sometimes be easily deceived or mistaken through the spiritualistic method, but that's just me talking.

I think that if a loved one has passed away, or a friend or someone sort of close, and one senses they're still around in a disturbing or enigmatic kind of way (not in a natural way that I think is normal for all people who are not atheists or materialists), one may try to communicate with that person through meditative thinking, and maybe whatever the departed one is trying to tell you, will dawn upon you almost as if it were your own idea in a way, but you'll know where it came from.

No I didn't go, but that's not to mean I never will. I still have a very strange sence of him being around me ocassionally. It's weird.

I am reading a book about a medium and it is very interesting.

Thanks for your input.
