How do you convert / change from Catholicism to Church of Scotland?

Hi,
I was raised a Catholic, attended Catholic Primary and Secondary schools, have been confirmed and made my First Communion- all in a Catholic Church.

Despite this outward sign of adhering to the Catholic faith, i was a young child who was 'made' to go to Church and as a result in my teenage years and later, I never went to any church.

However when i met dh we married in a Church of Scotland as that was his faith and I wasn't bothered about a Catrholic service but did still want to marry in achurch (some things must linger I suppose)

Now we have 2 dc (baptised in Church of Scotland) and have been attending our local Church of Scotland regularly. I was wondering if I actually have to convert to Church of Scotland to become a full member of the Church? I think it might be difficult as I have been confirmed in the Catholic Church. I also have never been to communion in a Church of Scotland, as it's not the same as a Catholic Church and I don't know if I can....
So you see there are some things causing me concern. All of this is a shame as I really enjoy going to Church now - so different from when I was younger!
Any advice? What do I do?

Speak to the minister. People convert to Catholicism, so I'm pretty sure you can do it in reverse. I think you may have to be confirmed into the new church, and probably make your communion again but I don't think it would be problematic. I think the main difference is that Catholics believe the bread actually is the body of Christ whereas most other Christian churches see it as representative(I think). If you have been attending regularly and the minister knows you, I am sure he will be delighted to advise.

HI Tiger.
I went the opposite way to you, so I am afraid I am not very much help, BUT I would imagine you would have some sort of confirmation as a C of S memeber after some instruction? You would then be able to take part in communion in the C of S which I think happens once a month or so. Have a word with your Minister. He will be delighted I am sure.
Very glad you have found a church that works for you. Nice feeling.

I don't know if you would have to undertake Enquirer classes or whether your confirmation in the Catholic church would be enough (might well be), but I do know that you can take communion in the CoS if you're not a member. Any Christian can as it's a matter of personal faith.

Ask your minister. I don't think it'll be hard at all tbh.

I think that you wouldn't need to be confirmed again, because of having been confirmed already (the other way is trickier because C of S wouldn't have been confirmed by a bishop). But you probably have to be received into the church, possibly after going to some classes to make sure you know what you're agreeing to in terms of beliefs.

Also, I think you're ok to receive communion, again because you're already confirmed.

But you should check both with the minister to be sure you're not inadvertently treading on any toes.

You are definitely OK to take communion. You are a Christian and the communion table is God's table to which any communicant Christian is welcome (some congregations serve communion to children as well, if they want it). Talk to your minister - S/he might want you to go through an Enquirer's group/communicant's class for the information about the Church of Scotland and its way of worship, etc.
