Hymn suggestions please...

I occasionally go through phases where I get excited about wedding plans and I'm currently in one of them phases! (I'm not getting married for a couple of years but I like to think about it and semi-plan).

We're having a Medieval wedding (less of the theme, we're doing it properly!) and I'm trying to think of hymns that will fit. I'm Pentecostal so they have to have that Medieval feel to them whilst still being Pentecostal worship songs. I've come up with three suggestions but two* whilst perfect in themselves, I'm not sure on because I had them at my first wedding (he said he doesn't care but I want to see if there are alternatives before I do that).

Songs I have:
Before the Throne of God Above*
Be Thou My Vision*
In Christ Alone

Isn't Thine by the Glory an Easter thing?

There is a Purcell tune to Love Divine, which is very catchy.

Am loving this thread! keep the hymm links coming, loving my home service, thanks to you brainy ones that can do 'link ups'

Having now played them back, I must admit that I agree with FAQ that Stainer is my preferred version, even without a 4 part choir! It was the melody I was brought up on!

However, you could also use "hydrofoil"

For those who don't know what we're on about, if you click on the midi against each melody, it'll play (or at least it does for me!)

love divine

I don't think I've ever been to a church with a choir! Just the band and the congregation! Not sure any of the bands would know about SATB (I've done a few Roger Jones productions, including the premier of Jairus's Daughter) either!

I'm enjoying watching this thread lol even if it is a hi-jack of mine

Sorry TBM - I seriously have been looking and listening through the hymms on 'you tube' ALL afternoon, I am loving 'THE PRAYER' it sounds lovely as a wedding hymm, I think I may have it at my 'Silver Wedding Anniversary' blessing in August.

There are quite a few versions from different songsters!

ZipadiSoozi · 21/04/2009 22:21

I'd link it if I could, Marys good at that though, its the celtic one!

MaryBS · 21/04/2009 22:39

The Prayer

We must have lost so many really good songs over the years, it's a shame. I went to a different church for awhile and they sing songs I remember from when I was little. It amazed me that in 15 - 20 years we've lost so many songs already.

Thanks for looking ZipadiSoozi

That's beautiful, might have to see if I can find someone to sing it rather than using it as a hymn
