I'm about 2/3 of the way through the Freedom in Christ course. We have the "Steps to Freedom" day in a few weeks time (bizarrely after the course is due to finish due to easter break etc). I am woneering if anyone who has done it can advise on what happens on the Steps day?

I've never heard of it, but this goes into some detail. However, this warns that,

"A particular concern is the introduction to the ?Steps to Freedom in Christ? which states that:

?we strongly recommend that you get the freedom-seeker to complete a Statement of Understanding which confirms for legal reasons their understanding that the encourager is not functioning as a trained counsellor?.

The guidelines then make it clear that the session could raise some very deep, personal and, potentially, problematic issues. Just the sort of issues that do need trained counsellors or pastors."

So perhaps you need to tread carefully if you have any background "issues" of your own.

Oh thank you. I'm dreading it, but know it will be good when all done. I hope!

Thank you

Hi Jeffa, I've just seen your query. Happy to discuss FIC course as dh & I are leading it in our church at present. Have done it myself twice now - happy to share my own experiences. May I ask are you doing the "Steps" as a group day or individual appointment?

oooh this thread had disappeared from ones I was on, so didn't realise you had replied mamanicky sorry.

As far as I know we're doing the Steps as a group day. I have a few "issues" though and not sure how will find it -ie how much are we expected to share with other people there? Is it all just between us and God?

Our vicar who is leading it is lovely but not particually pastoral, so I couldn't speak to him during the morning if I was finding it dificult.

I may be blowing it all up in my head, and it of course may be lovely
