Definafely not because "it's sofa bed night" (DSs sleep on it as a treat on a Friday) as he explained to me just now when i asked him. So should he have been taught at school (Primary 1)?

They may well have mentioned it in assemberly but he hasn't taken it in. Usually by about 7 they understand it more.

thanks but what is "good" about it. As I understand Jesus died so how do I explain to him if he does ask?

It's good because Jesus died so that our sins can be forgiven and our relationship with God can be restored. So even though his death was awful, the result was good.

cornflakegirl is right - Jesus's death - although profoundly sad - was good for mankind.

Probably a bit too much for a 7 year old to process though. It's secondary school teaching if you ask me.

I always that that Good Friday was just a corruption of God's Friday.

Aagh - thought that

My DS looked at the calendar, saw Good Friday and asked if it was a day he had to be extra good on.
I have been telling him that Easter is a spring festival about flowers, eggs, bunnies and chicks, and that there are a few other stories attached to the weekend but generally leaving it at that until he's older.

"
The Anglo-Saxon name for Good Friday was Long Friday, due to the long fast imposed upon this day.

Good Friday was not celebrated as the day Christ died until the 4th century A.D.

Why is it called Good Friday?

The name may be derived from 'God's Friday' in the same way that good-bye is derived from 'God be with ye'.

It is 'good' because the barrier of sin was broken."

OR

The 'Good' in Good Friday comes from old English when Good meant Holy. So you could call Good Friday, 'Holy Friday'.
