I know this subject has been covered before on MN but I wanted to ask if anyone has taken their child out of school worship and how did it affect their child?

At my church school CoE there isn't anyone who sits out of worship and we have a large number of muslim and some hindu pupils. However I do remember as a child the two Jehovah's Witness children sat out of assembly - all the parents knew, all the children knew and I can't say it did their social lives/acceptance any good at all. They were slightly strange children anyway and this just added to it.

Why do you want to take them out?

I echo what aldertree said. The Jehovah's witness kids at our school where seen as being different from the others due to this. I know we encourage individuality these days, but kids do seem to be up on differences and don't seem to always have the maturity to see this a positive.

Can I also ask why you feel the need to remove your child?

Thanks for your replies, it's good to think about this.

I don't really want to take them out of school worship, I don't want them to feel different and excluded.

I suppose I would just like something broader as well, for example a Muslim service or a hindu service or a humanist service. So that children can see all the different faiths.

I was taken out of services in secondary school - it was quite a laugh, actually, and I ended up spending the time in a classroom with various Jehovah's Witnesses and Muslims. It depends how many others are taken out, I should think.

there is only non denominational schools locally.

I was raised a Catholic - I have never believed.

So I sent my child to the school I felt best for us - she learns about every faith and I'm pleased to see her being taught that it's ok to believe in different things and it's personal choice

I'd never remove her I truly feel by doing so it's teaching them that something is bad.
For me if faith in ANYTHING is good for you - super I'm pleased for you
