DS declared in the car the other day:

"Oooh it looks like M is walking to church" (we saw M and her mum walking to town - past the church as we drove past in the car... anyway...)

So I say "yes, maybe they are"

He says "hm, I'd like to go to church"

I asked why (he hasn't been since he was a babe-in-arms due to hassle I got from old church) and he said he'd like to learn about Jesus and you can learn about Jesus in church

So, it looks like I'm going to have to be brave and take him to church!!

Should I ring the vicar or just turn up?

You don't have to go - he would probably like to go to Disneyland and Chessington Zoo as well!

You can teach him about Jesus at home if you want to - don't do something you're not comfortable with just because of a child's whim.

Fantastic news, Lewis.

You don't have to ring the vicar, you can just turn up.

However, you might want to check out if they have children's groups. If his friend is going, they probably do.

Some churches can be very solemn during Lent (ours isn't, and it is a shock when we visit one that is).

If you are happy going, I would just turn up. Maybe go with M and her mum?

I think that's really lovely. I know how daunting it can feel, but I myself am SO glad I made the effort!

seeker, I don't have a problem with it - was contemplating the whole return to the flock thing anyway... this has just spurred me into action

I'm not wanting to go to M's church - I don't know why... although, I dunno - I might see what her mum thinks of us tagging along

I know the church at the bottom of the road has sunday school, but none of his school mates go that I know of

Just turn up.
Maybe have a look on church websites to see if any of the churches have Boys Brigade or mid-week childrens groups. Even if none of his school mates were there, he might make new friends through other activities.
