Looking for a church in Brighton...any recommendations?

We're planning to sell up and move to Brighton or elsewhere in coastal E Sussex and would ideally like to find a smallish church community to be part of. We're sort of between liberal and evangelical if that gives you a picture of where on the spectrum we lie. We've not been involved in a church for a few years so we probably come under the category of 'unchurched Christians' or 'emerging church' if that means anything to you. What's really important for us in a church is openness to our questioning, exploratory outlook on faith; and to be involved in community.

It doesn't actually have to be a formal church, come to think of it; I rather like the idea of just getting together with a group of people who are exploring their faith.

So if anyone knows of anything that might fit any of these bills, it would be great if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

There's an interesting church in hurstpierpoint, not too far away, but I can't for the life of me think of it's name. The Redmans were there for a while if that means anything to you to give you an idea of style etc... google it and something should come up!

It's called "The Point"

Thanks both. I've never looked at ShipofFools before but have heard so funny stories about it that I didn't realise there was anything purely practical on the site!

Thanks Casserole, I'll take a look. The Redmans mention means a little bit to me, only because I know some of Matt's songs (not that keen, tbh!) but I don't know anything about them as a family.

Try Citygate Church on the London Road.

It is small, friendly and very upbeat.

Sounds like it might be similar to what you're looking for

Thanks, Shiny...though I once attended a London church with a very similar name...it was awful - incredibly cliquey. So I shall have to be very mature and treat this one as an individual

You're welcome Mrs MH. They're not there anymore, I only mentioned it to give you an idea of worship styles really. From what I can gather their services are cafe style services, which may or may not appeal!

Would be interested to hear your opinions if you do go!

Yes, shipoffools is good. The bulletin boards often have people asking for recommendations and you get a wide range of churchmanship opinions, too.

Good luck!

I know the minister here a little, and I think they are very friendly and open to new ideas in terms of how to do things. Theologically they might be a little more conservative than you are looking for, though.
