I'm loving this series. POJ is just utterly brilliant and British and also so lovely and liberal and just NICE.

I loved the way he was touched by the snake-handlers but obviously slightly appalled by the Revivalists.

Interested to know what other people think.

P.S. I SO WOULD

I have just unhidden this thread. did a POJ thread a while back.

He was apparently an advertising agent in a previous life. He's a bit too, er, ravaged for me but he's damn interesting...

thread topic

Am not god-botherer. but feel a renewed interest in things spiritual...

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 22:17

Oh I missed the previous POJ thread

I was cynical to start with but now I am mooning over him

He is so WHOLESOME isn't he? And just so LOVELY

He is a warm crumpet of a vicar

I loved his show on Africa and how touched he was by the Ethiopean religions

I wonder how the series works - who researched it and decided where he was going to go?

Saw the end of the one from the middle east. He reminded me of our Justa, actually. Apart from the fact that yes, I would, and I can't honestly say that about Justa because I haven't seen her.

WilfSell · 30/01/2009 22:22

wholesome? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

He has smoke so much skunk he can barely remember how to tie his shoelaces...

WilfSell · 30/01/2009 22:25

thread here

IorekByrnison · 30/01/2009 22:29

I agree it's great.

Not sure I would though.

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 22:40

hmm old thread intersting

Don't find it at all "heretical" or offensive from an anglican POV but am so woolly myself a need a regular shearing in the spring

I was thinking he was too wussy but tonight I loved his fury at the Revivalists and barely disguised guffawing at the spiritualists and am giving him respec'

It's a bit like a televised version of the RW threads, though, isn't it?

morningpaper · 30/01/2009 22:47

Haha, yes I suppose so

Is he GAY? I need to know

OP posts:
morningpaper · 30/01/2009 22:49

He's got the kind of voice that makes me want to rip his shirt off and lie on his chest and listen to him talk

OP posts:
morningpaper · 30/01/2009 22:50

He would make a GREAT Dr. Who

twinsetandpearls · 30/01/2009 22:51

I am loving this series.

KayHarker · 30/01/2009 23:01

MP, don't. It's still a sore spot atm. I'm looking at almost every other person in the world thinking what a good Doctor they'd be.

Bit fruity, his voice, though.

IorekByrnison · 30/01/2009 23:19

You are so right about him for Doctor Who, mp

Pinkfluffyslippers · 31/01/2009 08:23

Useless info: I googled P-O-J and he's separated with two kids. I think he looks a bit like Leo Sayer but would be a v good Dr Who.

I've only seen this prog twice and thought it was great but he's always taking his kit off! Are all C of E vicars like this?

comparethePeachydotcom · 10/02/2009 23:27

I love this programme also. I have a degree in the subject but his take is so joyful and celebratory

Earthymama · 11/02/2009 09:21

This series has been amazing, it's been the sole subject of conversation at our family meals lately. I have to record it for my 11 year old grandson.

I love his open mind and heart and his sheer delight in the diversity of people.

(I did think he could have met up with some more intersting pagans than the American group, but hey ho, maybe the Voodoo guys are saying the same!! )

What did you think of Shinto? Do Shinto women beat the doo-dah out of each other too?

I also like to think our own dear rev is a womanly P-O-J.

vonsudenfed · 11/02/2009 09:29

Another fan here. But what I'm intrigued about - and isn't ever really allowed to surface in the series - is how this journey has impacted on him. He's been travelling for a year, and seen the most extraordinary things; surely he's going to return a changed person.

Amazon tells me that there's a book of the series out in April, so I'm hoping that that might tell me a bit more of that.

Agree that the research has been superb, too. In every show there's at least two or three things which just make my jaw drop with astonishment, and about which I knew nothing beforehand.

popsycal · 26/02/2009 10:28

Thanks morningpaper for senidng me here.

I have a bizarre inappropriate thing for Peter Owen Jones which has rather caught me by surprise.

Will now read the thread :~)

GentleOtter · 26/02/2009 10:43

I lust over heart POJ.

The Californian 'open' church moved me to tears especially after they burned it to release the sadness.
I wish the fuddy duddy Church of Scotland had more ministers like him as he injects a freshness into the perspective of worship.
