My DH is Muslim and I am Christian although i have never really been a proper Christian if you see what i mean. We agreed that our dds would be brought up Muslim and i am fine with this. Recently I have been thinking about religion quite alot - i am a language teacher and teach alot of different nationalities and alot of my students are quite religious.
My question is, how do i go about looking into Christianity and learning a bit more about it? Do i just get hold of a bible? The priest of our local church lives two doors down from me. Should I go and see her? Start going to church? Can anyone give me any advice?

i would go and see the priest. I am sure she would be more than happy to chat with you about whatever you want to find out

Start going to church - Christmas is a great time. There may also be special visitor services.

A good church will run courses for new Christians and for Christian growth, and also have lots of small groups where you can study the bible together and gets lots of encouragement and support.

Why not try an Alpha Course?

That was how I became a Christian ad it was really informative and relaxed.

Local papers shoudl have details of one near you or there could be one advertised on church billboards iyswim

I hope you find the answers you are looking for

If I where you I would not go to a priest, I would definalty not go to an alpha course. I would stick with your gut reaction and get a Bible and ask God to reveal himself via his word.

Alpha courses are very bad, and I make NO apologies for saying this, they have led many astray with their doctrines. With a priest all you would get would be 'religion' man made doctrines, to know the truth you need to read the Bible.

Not interested in any debates re alpha.

I hope you find your way to the narrow way.

saramoon - have a look at some of the reluctant worshipper threads, there is some really useful info on those and i got some good advice on them re exactly what bible to start with and so on (er, not that i immediately followed said advice...on my to-do list...) ie what version, i was so confused given the huge choice available. like you i am interested in deepening my knowledge of christianity and did not know where to start. (actually i started with richard dawkins, whose writings i always enjoy, without being an atheist myself!) some suggested beginning with the gospels. try and see if you can find the relevant thread (sorry, am useless with links!) - get back to me if you can't! x

ooh hello rev, i've been missing you. happy new year! x

Believer07, I appreciate what you're saying but the Bible is pretty hard to understand at times, even for people who've been 'in the faith' for a long time. As for asking God for revelation - ditto.

I think the advice about talking to different people is most helpful and will hopefully give the OP a broad base from which to start exploring her journey of faith.

Also I would say question, question, question. Spend lots of time mulling everything over, there's no need to just rush someone else's interpretation straight into your head.

Have fun!
