I was raised Catholic as my Mother's side are very religious, her Mother/my Grandmother was an extremely religious woman and went to our Catholic church and had total faith. However, although my Mum is Catholic, I feel like I am the only one out of my family who still holds belief.

I really want to return to the church and I'm not sure whether I should become a member or our local Church of England church or return to our Catholic church, where I was baptised etc.

Two questions:

  1. If I do return to my Catholic church, can I slip in and attend Mass this Sunday or do I have to introduce myself and be welcomed into the community?
  1. If I was to go to our local Church of England church, do I again just attend even though I'm Catholic or do I have to be welcomed in/accepted?

Thanks

If you're a Catholic you can just slip back in for a few weeks and see how you like the church . You don't have to introduced yourself but you can do if you like and the priest should be delighted to welcome you. If he's not--go elsewhere.

  1. Of course you can just slip in and sit down and join in. Hopefully they'll be some nice welcoming people who will say hello. Do that for a few weeks if you feel happy about it and then go and introduce yourslf to the priest. Some churches have groups for "returning Catholics" which he might be able to tell you about.
  1. Of course, you can just go - do the same as you would in the RC church. Go for a little while and see how you get on - the go and have achat with the vicar.

It shouldn't be scary - just take it all at your own pacew

Thank you.

I know this probably sounds like an inappropriate thing to ask...

As I have a child out of wedlock, and another on the way and I'm living with their Dad with no intentions of marrying him, I feel like I've got too much guilt to return to my RC Church and also attend the CofE Church?

Is that like I'm cheating on my religion

sorry my question was: can I return to my RC Church and attend the CofE Church? *

There is no impediment to your attending a CofE church. You can take communion, too. Your RC baptism is recognised.

you want to go to both churches?

I would choose one and stick with it TBH

Go where you feel welcomed

(whereabouts are you? Perhaps some MNetters know of a nice friendly church nearby)

Im Catholic, had a child out of wedlock, use contraception, most priests these days live in the real world and are not too harsh.
Just slip into mass and see how you feel, or try a few different churches, I dont go to my local church for mass because its full of people I dont consider to be christian (like to appear like it but not really IYKWIM), so I go to one in the city and enjoy it much more.
Saying that, havent been for months
