I've been asked to do a 5min talk at my dds preschool christmas concert and my mind is coming up blank (I'm more used to adults and teenagers). I'd like to do something creative and interactive whilst getting over the true meaning (parents will be there as well). I was thinking something about presents and Jesus being Gods present to us with boxes to unwrap or ......

How about telling them the Baboushka story:
www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/world/baboushka.shtml?page1
or atschool.eduweb.co.uk/carolrb/christmas/baboushka.html
You can print off a peper one for them to colour in here: www.mssscrafts.com/crafts/matryushka/

Sorry I did not do the links properly. Another try:
www.mssscrafts.com/crafts/matryushka/ has the colour in activity
www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/world/baboushka.shtml and atschool.eduweb.co.uk/carolrb/christmas/baboushka.html have 2 versions of the story.

I like this one, which I guess could be adapted using puppets or soft toys? And I guess you can swap the animals that probably weren't there for ones that may have been?

How about something about different traditions around the world - expecially if there are other nationalities present. Are you allowed to use the children to help?

Or take a short story format like 'what's the time Mr Wolf' and adapt to the lead up to christmas day.....so the baby was born and thats why we have presents. Have an object for each bit if you can, get children to get them out of little boxes they'll be desperate for a turn and you can reward those who are sitting and listening with a chance to participate. Allow one box for each minute. Could use the box format for the tradtions if you can get examples of classic objects - e.g boot full of sweets for St Nicholas day on 6th December in Germany. Sure there are other food related/decoration traditions that would be easy to show.
