Thanks Kay, inshallah, I will do it this year. But I miss the rhythm and beauty of the words in arabic when I read the english.

EandZ - apricots! Poor you! I have found a fab islamic butcher, who even makes his own lamb sausages. Inshallah, I am going to try and go to the mosque this Friday for Jummua prayers - I have a 7month old baby though and will have to see if she will stay quiet for the qhutba.

ummadam · 03/09/2008 11:51

eandz - there are loads of halal butchers round here and there is a Krispy Kreme in enfield ;) if you want i'll email you directions to some.

ummadam · 03/09/2008 11:54

Frangolina, salaams. I was pregnant for both eid prayers last year and Adam kicked harder than ever during the khutbah! It was all I could do not to laugh as it was ticklish!

eandz · 03/09/2008 16:18

UmmAdam!
please send me the info you've got wrt halal butchers...

Fragolina, lamb sausages sound delicious!

i want to buy a really light abaya for when we go to pray taravih, i think theres a store off of baker street called dar al taqwa so i might ask if they can send me to the closest muslim butcher too...i really need to establish a ramadhan tradition in this household or else we'll never get one sorted and turn into one of those families who completely ignore ramadhan (my biggest fear!)

littleducks · 04/09/2008 18:58

how has everyone been today?
am finding the fasting easier than i thought alhammdillah but poor dd (2) cant understand why she has to eat alone now

Fragolina · 04/09/2008 20:53

Still getting on OK with the fasting alhamdulilah - finding it a struggle to eat tonight though. Will give it a little while and try and have some proper dinner.

littleducks - poor dd, I'm sure she'll get really excited at Eid though.

eandz - any luck on finding that abaya? Does anyone know any good online shops for one?

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/09/2008 12:26

Ill Hamdu Illah the weather has been kind to us this Ramadan...I was expecting an Indian summer and being very thirsty, but that's not the case at all. Am losing my prayer mojo a bit though - I don't mind the prayer but HATE the wudu...anyone else like this and any tips??

OP posts:
Fragolina · 07/09/2008 12:42

PinJCs - I am so like that too about the wudu, esp for fajr, and I really hate getting my feet wet lots of times in the day! I remember someone once told me that if you wear socks after your first wudu of the day, you only need to pass your damp hand over them for the following ones - not sure what the hadith reference was, or even if its really accurate.

Finding it hard today already, didn't wake up to eat last night.

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/09/2008 12:45

Fraj - yes that is correct. You can make wudu and if you have clean socks you can just pass your hand over them once during th day but its only allowed if the socks are fresh that day i.e not two days running - as if we would do that anyway! lol!!

You can also, if at work, just wash everything once rather than three times as its better than not praying at all iyswim? Not that I've ever prayed in work tbh but DH does and he does this if he's pushed for time....ughh..I must get my prayer mojo back...I hate getting wet! My friend told me we should count our blessings that we have hot running water to make wudu with and she is right but I'm still a lazy slattern....

Today has been the hardest fast for me yet, i felt ill yesterday but had no real desire to stop but today dd has been so naughty and i have been so angry and lost my temper i feel like it has been broken already and would like to eat

We are planning on having iftar at the mosque, which will be nice (if dd behaves at least a little bit)

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/09/2008 18:04

Its hard when they are trying your patience not to reach for the choc and break fast isn't it! I do sympathise. Try to remember though that looking after your children is a form of worship in itself..so, although its soooo hard at times, there is reward in it - just not in this life when we are stood in the hall way viewing crayon marks on the what used to be magnolia wall....

PussinJimmyChoos · 07/09/2008 18:13

Stitch - I live in hope but... er...nope....

I feast in the evenings to 'reward' myself for fasting...its not recommended I know but oooh...nice!

salaams - slightly off topic but just found out that eandz had her Ramadan baby on saturday alhamdolillah I thought perhaps we could all add baby Noah to our dua when we break our fast and pray that Allah makes it easy for his parents in these early difficult weeks with a newborn!

Fragolina · 09/09/2008 09:30

Mashallah - welcome to the world baby Noah! Thanks for letting us know ummadam

Yesterday was sooo hard for me! DD is teething (8 months), and was so clingy and whiny, I barely had the energy to stay patient and calm, but I maanged and didn't break my fast early. Hope today is better.

On losing weight - have about 6-8 extra kgs to get rid of, but maybe they won't be going anywhere if I break my fast with Tiramisu like last night !

Pomi · 09/09/2008 17:21

Ramadan Mubark. Someone asked a very good question about the memories of ramadan.
I remember mums parathay in the morning she used to make us everyday even if she was not fasting.
I remember trying out different receipes.
I remember the embaracement of not fasting because i couldnt woke up or have periods.
Yes the kids make fasting much harder specially if they are under 3.

littleducks · 09/09/2008 18:36

oh, could yoy post the recipe for halal tirimisu? that sounds interesting

i'm not fasting today and i am actually really am missing it! i think i have eaten too much, i think my digestive system was benefiting from the break

Enjoy your first ever Jummah prayers Riven. Littleducks, I find peppermint tea or redbush tea is great for that overloaded feeling.
The Tiramisu recipe is:

400g mascarpone cheese
400g savoiardi biscuits
1 1/2 large cups espresso coffee
4 eggs
100g sugar
2 tsp cocoa powder

Separate egg yolks from whites. Beat egg yolks and sugar until thick and frothy. Beat in mascarpone. Separately, whisk egg whites until stiff, and fold into mascarpone mixture. Dip savoiardi biscuits into coffee and layer base of dish. Cover with mascarpone/egg cream, repeat with another layer of coffee soaked biscuits and finish with cream layer. Sieve cocoa powder over the top and refrigerate for a few hours before serving - the longer it stays in the fridge, the better.

littleducks · 12/09/2008 10:25

will give it ago before the month is out, thank you

we are doing the iftar at the mosque on sunday (people sponsor a day and provide all the food for people who break fast there) so mil is going into a panic, that i will forget to bring dates or something!

Fragolina · 15/09/2008 10:54
