Anybody ever used a ouija board?

I posted this thread under the chat section last night. 'Met' some interesting people - but didn't really get much by way of answering my questions. There was a suggestion that I re-post under this topic - so here goes;

Has anybody on here ever used a ouija board?

Did it work?

what happened?

would you do it again?

I must say I would never use a ouija board again, and have always explained to my dDs why I 'banned' them from 'playing' with such things. I think that only people that know what they are dealing with/are prepared to take the consequences should use them.
As I said before, we had some very interesting 'conversations' with spirits(?), and I can understand its appeal, but it's not for me !!

My family on my mothers side have always been spiritualists and they have used boards various times. The trouble with these is that many people are using them without an experienced medium and you are pratically saying anyone want to come through do so and because of that it tends to be the cheekier spirits that come through. I have been told that if you are trying to connect with a particular person, you can use the board while trying to do that but you shouldn't try and communicate with spirits in general.

i myself have never tried it, probably because my mum has warned me off of them due to her experiences... I also believe that the mind is powerful and if you believe what you think you have been told you will slowly destroy yourself anyway.

joash - nothing too serious with GS I hope?

Very eclectic myself. Use Wiccan/witch as a catch-all term for what I believe in, but blend in a lot of shamanic, Native American tradition, druidism etc etc.

I dislike the 'high magick' side of Alexandrian/Gardenerian and the rules and regulations regarding Priests/Priestesses. Although I have studied it quite a bit because I inherited a load of books from my FIL, who was very much into it.

One of the reasons I was drawn to paganism is the lack of hierachy and the sense of equality and balance - I think high magick covens lean too heavily back towards structured religion IYKWIM.

Just got back from doc's with him. He's got an ear infection, poor little thing. Knew what it was before we went, but wanted to be sure.

I agree about the draw towards paganism being about the sense of equality and balance. I also feel that it's more accepting and non-judgemental of other peoples beliefs.

Hi
Just like to say hello to everyone. I have been a practising someting for many years but now educating and practising ritual magic. I found the exp. of the ouija interesting. I agree with those that say use only if you know what you are doing. Please do not play with this esp if you are the type not to take this seriously.

Do any of you have any interesting site to share.

Hi Network.

I did have a wonderful list of sites in my favourites list. Unfortunately, changed my ISP and DH forgot to copy all my faves over before deleting old software (prat).

So if you have any suggestions for good sites .....

Hi Network - I don't spend as much time as I used to trawling through sites, mainly due to other commitments, but I'm certainly going to look at what's available lately to see if anythings changed.

A mate of mine used to work at Sorceror's Apprentice! FWIW he attributes his 'breakdown' to weird occult goings-on, although I lean more towards thinking it was the drugs wot did it...

Haven't used one - we WERE going to have a seance once in my student days, but the flat's resident Christian Union-er threw a hysterical wobbly at the thought. I have some difficulty taking them seriously, but it certainly seems that they've a well deserved reputation for upsetting people. I'd be very wary.

Hi Carrieg

made me smile.
So what is the owner like?

No idea!

I used to live literally round the corner, so I tried the door a few times...always locked. A few years later I ran into this friend again (we'd lost touch after his relationship with a Uni mate of mine ended), & we somehow got onto the subject of SA.

Apparently if you wanted to go in, you had to ring & make an appointment because it's RIGHT in the middle of Leeds student housing area (the original 'Bedsit Land', if you're a Soft Cell fan ) & they got sick of nosey students 'browsing' . I believe the business got a whole new lease of life with the advent of the internet - not even sure if the shop's still there!

Yes
He has also said that he had a lot of bad publicity from people who did not like the shop being there!!!

My DH did ouiji when he was 16 with 2 friends. They lit some candles and had a laugh, but nothing really happened. A few days later when they developed the film from their throw-away camera, they found a photo that they couldn't explain. It was of the 3 of them sitting around the ouiji board with the candles upside down. Spooky, makes me go cold just thinking about it.

Double exposure?

Report
girlchick · 18/03/2006 12:34

Even if it was double exposure, which may explain the candles, who took the photo? There was no-one else around...

me and a friend used one once. we sat upstairs and did the whole is anybody there, knock once for yes, twice for no (looking back - you are hardly going to get 2 knocks from the beyond to say they aren't there, but hey, we were young and stupid!)

Anyway, suddenly, there was this HUGE bang! it literally shook the floor! we peed ourselves and ran screaming down the stairs....

...to find my sister laughing her arse off in the kitchen (directly below my room) with the sweeping brush in her hands and a big dent in the ceiling. (dent is still there, 20 years later!)

NO!

Stay the fuck away from those things unless you're a very experienced medium, in which case you won't need one, anyway.

They are bad, bad, bad. NOT a game.
