Suitable Bible recommendations for a 12-year-old exploring Christianity

My autistic DD (12) has expressed a desire to explore Christianity. We are not a religious family and she only has minimal exposure through school, but I am really keen to to support her.

She is really keen to read the bible, but I am not sure where would be a good place for her to start. We have looked in a book store, but they only had childrens first bibles or ones that I was concerned she would not be able to access.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a suitable bible that we could get her?

Thanks!

Really good suggestions above. I'll add the Diary of a Disciple - The Gospel of Luke as another option. Its a kid friendly retelling of Luke's Gospel. So it's not the Bible but an accessible start on the story of Jesus. Might be less daunting than the whole Bible

My son has this book, it's really good. My boys have the action bible as well and I had the youth bible as a teen. I still prefer that one tbh but it fell apart and my inlaws gave me a kjv and expected me to be grateful that I had a "proper bible" at long last.

I find that any book by j john is really good.

The 100 minute bible is for some people a good way of getting an overview before reading on in more detail. Not for everyone but I have used it with young adults.

If she is interested in exploring Christianity why don't you see if there is a youth group at a nearby church. Maybe it will be easier for her than just giving her a Bible to read. As a life long Christian I struggle with just opening a Bible! She might make sone friends too and have fun.

Does your local church have a Youth Group? My 15 year old is on a similar journey exploring faith, and decided to join the church youth group around 5 months ago (we hadn’t been regular church goers before this). It has been great for him both for making some similar-minded friends, but also the youth pastor leads bible studies where they can explore different parts of the bible together

Have you had a visit to your local library? I know the children’s non fiction section in ours has a selection of books about different religions, some aimed older kids/teen

The Essential Bible Companion is a great first christian book.

Each page gives you an overview of a book from the bible: key themes, who's who, nice little map and timeline.

Very accessible introduction.
