Potential of good schools in the future (depending on area).

Lots of pressies .

NB: My two are not Christened as DH lapsed Catholic and i'm a raving heathen.

You know that thing where you read 'alternatives' as 'advantages'?

I just did that!

MrsBadger · 16/06/2008 14:41

you can have a civil baby naming with a registrar (like a civil wedding)

or a humanist ceremony with a humanist celebrant

or a ceremony of your own with no outside 'experts'

or just a big party (we called ours a babywarming)

TigerFeet · 16/06/2008 14:43

DD isn't christened/baptised - like PortBlacks her parents are raging heathen/lapsed catholic

Haven't bothered with a naming ceremony

She was born, and, erm, well that was it

madamez · 16/06/2008 14:45

Another vote for humanist naming ceremony - you can find a celebrant near you if you go on the website, or you can order a book which gives you ideas on writing your own.

For these naming ceremonies, did any of you have special people for the children like 'godparents'? if so what do you call them?

we're having a "welcome to the world party" with some sort of ceremony - having guardians instead of godparents

I am Christian but don't agree with Christenings or infant baptisms.

OP - if you don't believe in anything then I don't see why you want to have any kind of service.... just have a big party to celebrate the birth of your LO

Godparents are a nice idea, but IMO a bit of a popularity contest and no actual purpose legally.

Ummm, after I posted here I just noticed that the thread is 2 years old and had been brought up again by someone who then had a comment deleted

Methinks the comment deleted was an advert given the username!
