St Anthony and the baguette

NC as very outing.

A few months ago I took my children to the nearest town and parked in a multi storey. Got the ticket, went to exit.

I had a niggling feeling about the ticket and could not find it. Checked my bag, children's bags, car. No luck.

I sent them to wait by the exit and trawled the car. I lifted up floor mats, dig through glovebox and down the sides of the seat. Lay along back seats to check under front. Nothing.

Went back to children, checked again. Nothing

Went back to car, lay along the back seat to check under front seats and in any crevices, Nothing.

Checked again with children, Nothing.

Got back to car and said St Anthony's prayer standing by it. Turned around and it was on top of the car.

That's not the weird bit.

Couple of hours later, come back to car, load children in and turn the engine in. And then one of them asks why they're is a baguette in the back. It was lying right across the back seats.

I felt it and it was a bit stale but still soft in the middle. Like it was made the day before.

I hadn't bought baguette for at least a month.

I would have noticed if one of the children had whilst we were out.

My car, noone else uses it.

I had stretched my full body along those seats looking for the ticket.

I have no idea what happened there.

Even more strangely, I had the children with me (aged 11+). I was recounting the story a bit later and 13yo looked at me very oddly and said mum, that never happened.

She was definitely there and was the one who found it. Other two corroborated my story.

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts.

I get and believe in the St Anthony bit but was he renowned for leaving food?

clamshell24 · 01/11/2025 05:25

Might your 13 y o enjoy a wind-up?

Not to my knowledge!

Not really... at least not like that. And her reaction to me recounting this was confused rather than anything else.

Which shop was the baguette from?

JaelsTentpeg · 03/11/2025 10:12

Tesco.

Don't judge me.

Random! Why would st Anthony give you a stale baguette 🤔

Abra1t · 03/11/2025 10:43

Someone got into your car mistakenly? Jumped out and left the baguette in their embarrassment?

deeahgwitch · 03/11/2025 11:04

No idea OP but I mislaid my engagement ring very soon after getting engaged and was searching for it in the house.
Prayed to St Anthony
It turned up at the sink in a bathroom. .
Of course I had checked there a few times previously as it was an obvious place to look first.
I still can’t explain it.
Next time you lose a ticket in a car park, onstead of panicking phone the attendant as they will have a record of when you entered on CCTV

Many years ago a colleague left a bag containing a large amount of company cash on a train. He was absolutely panicking and I said I’d pray to St Anthony for him. The bag turned up and not a penny was missing.

I have many similar stories.

MissyB1 · 06/11/2025 15:58

St Anthony is on permanent stand by in my life, in fact he's probably wishing I had never heard of him! He's definitely never left me a baguette though sadly.

JaelsTentpeg · 06/11/2025 17:07

I'd offer you mine but fed it to the ducks. Hopefully he isn't offended.

Love the name!

So when did your eldest say it never happened? How could she say it didn't happen if she found the baguette and the other two agreed with you?

I wondered that too !

JaelsTentpeg · 07/11/2025 00:50

I cannot answer the last two questions as I have not got a clue!

It was about 2 weeks after the incident that she said it never happened.

I can't even begin to make sense of the situation tbh. Her sisters did challenge her on it as they had seen exactly what I did too.

Logically, I think you put the ticket on top of the car when you first got out (or it fell to the floor and someone picked it up in your absence) and I think Abra1t is correct that someone mistook your car for theirs and they jumped in, and out, leaving their baguette in their hurry. The car was unlocked as you’d been back and forth and in your stressed state left it open.
Your DD I can’t fathom at all!! 🤣

JaelsTentpeg · 07/11/2025 10:20

I agree about the ticket absolutely!

still grateful St Anthony, thank you!

But there's no way somebody got in my car to leave me a baguette ! I'm religious about lockng it.

Had you previously lost a baguette?

JaelsTentpeg · 11/11/2025 07:39

Not to my knowledge 😂

And it wasn't stale, that's the thing. Def not freshly bought but personally I would have hacked off both ends and served up the middle, no problem.

I didn't because supernatural baked goods are beyond my ken!

I risked giving it to the hens instead.

And I had flipping lain along the back seat TWICE looking for the ticket.

I'm never going to know the answer to this am I?

I believe when food is left out as an offering for saints the “proper” way of disposing off it afterwards is to give it to animals!

love this story! inexplicable but very cool!

Because St. Anthony found many a thing for me but not the little purse with £40 in it YET I said hello to him in his Basilica in Padua last year. I put some money in the slot and lit a few candles. Still haven't found the little purse, but I'm hopeful it will turn up when I least expect it! Padua BTW is just gorgeous. No baguettes but plenty of Ciabbata and Foccacia. No ducks.
