So, anyone else celebrating Litha?

Just wondering if anyone else has plans for Litha yet? A friend and I are quite newly interested in Wicca and have decided to celebrate. Going to the nearest fairy ring Just curious to know what others may do and to see if I can get any ideas please. We didn't know wether there is anything wiccay that we could cook and take for a picnic maybe?

May I ask what is Litha please? And what's a fairy ring - is it a ring of toadstools like I was told when I was a child?

Hi Belgo and sorry for taking ages to reply. Been revising for an exam and enjoying the sunshine

Litha is midsummers day/the summer solstice. Apparently what some people do is see the sun set on the eve of it, then stay up all night to see the sun rise. Sounds lovely but think we only have time for the sunset this year unfortunately.

Our fairy ring (in Guernsey) is simply an old stone circle. We are lucky that it is in a beautiful, peaceful setting tho, so planning a special eve.

Any food is fine, but there should be an abundance - Litha is a time of plenty. If you want to have a theme then go for colour - white, yellows, oranges and golds for the summer sun.

Traditional choices are apples, carrots, tomatoes, citrus fruits. The ideal drink would be mead, made from fermented honey. The June full moon is often known as the 'honey' or 'mead' moon.

SaintGeorge, thanks so much for that info. Knew about the colours but not most of the other bits Do you, or anyone else, have any good website/book reccomendations. Already have a few books, but it hard to work out what to read first.

Diane Stein's books are great. Also Glennie Kindred.

We just follow basic guidelines re Goddess celebrations and add in our own emphasis.

We have lovely music, Caroline Hillyer, Seize the Day and food and drinks, cider and caramelized onion tart this year with home grown salads.

It's lovely to be connected to the flow of the seasons and to celebrate the seasons. I wish I'd been more aware when we actually had long lovely summers, though that might be my rose tinted specs!!
