Hello,

I was at mass the other day and the priest sneezed directly on the holy communion. I panicked and did not want to be disrespectful, so I took it. I am always cautious of germs and a little ott at times, when sickness is involved. Without thinking, I placed the communion in the bin. I never once thought that I was placing the "Holy Spirit", in the bin, I only thought of the germs and that it was contaminated food. I left pleased with myself that I had avoided the germs, in a mannerly fashion.

However, upon reflection and talking with a friend, I realised what I had done, was completely blasphemous and disrespectful. I am now eaten with guilt. I returned to the bin and even searched through it with a glove, getting a lot more germs that I would have from the communion-KARMA. I could only locate a small part, which I returned to the church, confessing my sins with a note.

I also confessed to God and lit a candle explaining and praying for forgiveness. I also outlined what I had done to the priest.

I am no eaten with guilt. I would never EVER intentionally disrespect God.

Am I doomed?

No you’re not doomed. Don’t worry so much.

Swimswans · 01/10/2025 12:52

😂

Oneeyedonkey · 01/10/2025 12:52

I think you have more issues than you think

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 01/10/2025 12:53

I’m pretty sure God understood your intentions.

Devilsmommy · 01/10/2025 12:54

I'm surprised he didn't smite you down where you stood 🙄

ComtesseDeSpair · 01/10/2025 12:54

”That would be an ecumenical matter!”

If you’re a practising Catholic then surely this is a question for the priest / confession. If you’re not, then it doesn’t matter.

Duckduckagogo · 01/10/2025 12:56

Read this on Reddit, total joke thread.

Uggbootsforever · 01/10/2025 12:57

Was it a Catholic Church or not? If so then the premise of transubstantiation means technically you did indeed bin the Holy Flesh. But - God will not mind. This is probably the least of his worries in a world with relentless war, murder and poverty.

Pretty sure God would have a bigger problem with you speaking to people like that over not eating a snot ridden wafer.

PraisebetoGod · 01/10/2025 13:23

Go to confession and tell your priest. Speak to God in prayer. He knows your heart. BTW as a Catholic we believe that the wafer has become Jesus Christ's actual flesh. Read about transubstantiation. Given you weren't aware though I am sure God will forgive you should you repent.

SeaDragon17 · 01/10/2025 13:25

It’s not literally Jesus, no matter what you believe, so don’t fret.

Religion that makes people feel this anxious about a sensible action to avoid illness is just ridiculous.

Pretty sure her mocking someone who is clearly distressed, would hardly be model behaviour.

Not really a thread you would come across on Reddit, unless you specifically went looking!

Not a Catholic so do not believe in transubstantiation, but no, you are definitely NOT doomed - well, not for simply disposing of some contaminated material. Worry not. How rude of the priest for potentially putting the participants at risk of picking up his germs.

Firstbornunicorn · 01/10/2025 20:46

I can’t believe you put Jesus in the bin!

Theunamedcat · 01/10/2025 20:46

Catholics dont have napkins?

Instructions · 01/10/2025 21:12

No one is doomed, op. It's a fairly central tenet of your church, which provides a well established way to confess sins and receive forgiveness.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 01/10/2025 21:36

Darling, please.

Justmerach · 02/10/2025 05:26

With God’s mercy and grace-
If your body experiences involuntary conditions or actions that express harsh words or thoughts—without your personal belief or intent—those are not counted because of God’s mercy.
Remember, God looks at the heart and understands our struggles beyond mere words.
Do you have anothe condition say like OCD.....if so consider the advise above and what you described doen't sound like blapsemy

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 02/10/2025 06:05

You’re going to be fine. As an atheist, you might still get germs from touching the wafer anyway. As someone who tries not to be THAT atheist, I think your God will understand your reasoning.
