Can anyone help a lapsed Catholic?

I will shortly be attending a Catholic funeral for a close relative. I haven't been to Mass for 5 years and I'm aware there have recently been changes to the lectionary. I was attending Mass when the responses changed so I'm fine with that but wonder what impact the lectionary changes will have. It's not possible to hide in the congregation - I will need to play an active part in this.

My lapsing is due to a crisis of faith but I am feeling the pull again.

There’s no obligation to make responses. Follow the lead of others for standing, kneeling, sitting etc.
Take one of the prayer books that will be offered. Maybe take a rosary too and say that.
It’s a funeral. Everyone is sad and normal rules don’t apply.

@TheWoollybacksWife
Hi, I am not a catholic but I am a Christian (C of E) and just wanted to say I am sorry for your loss. I hope the service will go well.

I hope you will find your way through the crisis of faith and find the service of use.

I am sure no one will judge you if you don't know all the correct things and I hope it goes well.

I’m sure before Mass, the priest will go through the part of the service you are actively involved in. Or just ask. At such a sad time, it’s lovely that you are taking part and family and friends will definitely not be picking up any mistakes or lack of response from you.

I go to Mass regularly and still check around to see when we are to kneel or stand etc.
There is an app called Universalis which has daily readings and the Mass on it. But it would be on your phone

In our Church the Sign of Peace is still a ‘namaste bow’ to others. Changed from handshake after Covid. I quite like it, on a weekday Mass it’s quieter and we can do it to people far away from us.

As a thought why don’t you go to a quieter weekday Mass first, might increase your confidence.

No one should be judging you, anyway.

Not trying to be overall negative but I have terminal cancer and there will be tons (I hope) of lapsed and non Catholics at my funeral. Including DH and my children. (See Covid changes)

No one is going to be worried about getting it all correct and the Priest will completely understand that

The responses to the psalm will be read out by the reader. The change in lectionary will make no difference.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply and ease my fears. Your are all very kind.

@Italiangreyhound thank you for your condolences. I think I will take the very sensible advice of @RedRosesPinkLilies and head out to a quiet Mass and see if it helps me work through my doubts. I will probably also look at a streamed Mass on YouTube and see if it is as familiar as ever.

Yes, this. The Lectionary is just the readings read out by a reader or the priest. The actual Mass hasn't changed for years. I hope it goes well for you. As a previous poster said, nobody will mind whether you get anything 'wrong' re kneeling etc. The priest at all the Catholic funerals I've been to has always given cues like 'Let us stand to greet the Gospel', or 'We now place ourselves at the Last Supper so please sit or kneel, whichever you are most comfortable with'.
