Ancestral Altar

For a while now, I've had an ancestral altar to honour loved ones that now reside in the spirit world (although it goes beyond that, as I use it not just for family members, but friends and a beloved pet.) So more like an Altar for the "Dead".

It's quite small (one of my bookshelves) and I have some photo representations of my loved ones on it. I also place offerings to my loved ones (food/drink) on it once a week and sit in front of the altar when I wish to contact/communicate with them.

Wondered if anyone else had an altar to their beloved dead in their home?

All my Roman recon pagan friends have one; it's called a lararium, the household altar, and the Di Manes, your ancestral dead are worshipped there. Rich Romans would also have a separate display of death masks of their family and nowadays we have it for photos.

Yes I have one.

It’s normal practice in my tradition. I leave offerings for my beloved dead on it, one grandmother was fond of a cup of tea so that’s what she gets in one of her own tea cups. The other was fond of whisky so that’s her gift.
