Paganism / Wicca - Where to start?

I have had some major life changes over the last couple of years, and want to change the way I approach life. I stumbled across the Wheel of the Year, and fell down an internet rabbit hole. I want to find out more, but there is so much out there I don't know where to start.

Can anyone recommend some beginners books, or websites so I can start to learn a little and perhaps take on some basic ideas to try?

I'm not sure myself, it's been years since I was Wiccan, but try looking for local groups or see if there's a witchy shop nearby and ask them.

I have this book and although the moon charts in it are a bit out of date now, the rest is pretty solid. Good luck! 😊

Take a look at the Pagan Federation website for helpful information and local Pagan groups where you live. Some really good books: Rae Beth’s ‘Hedge Witch’ is a classic; Ronald Hutton’s ‘Triumph of the Moon’ is an excellent explanation of the evolution of neo-Paganism and Wicca.

I would highly recommend Wheel of the Year by Rebecca Beattie. She is a highly respected Wiccan priestess, this is a lovely book, giving a good way in. I would also suggest 'Principle of Wicca' by Vivianne Crowley, another reputable writer, also a very experienced Wiccan, who has been active in the Craft for more than 50 years.

Rae Beth's books are lovely, and although Ronald Hutton's 'Triumph of the Moon' is an excellent write-up of the history and development of Wicca, it is quite heavy-going, and possibly not info youneed at the moment! However,

is really good.

Happy to help with other questions on the subject.

All the best on your journey!

If you’re anywhere near London you can go into Watkins books or Treadwells and they will be able to point you in the direction of good starting points. Both are excellent shops with very knowledgeable staff. Treadwells run various courses, many of which are online. You might also be able to find Facebook groups relevant to what you’re looking for.

What is drawing you to Paganism or Wicca?

Try Ronald Hutton’s The Triumph of the Moon. Hutton is a sceptic and a proper academic famous for saying history occupies for him the place mythology does for others, but his book is a very thoughtful and understanding account of the creation of neopaganism between the mid-C19th and the 1960s, and the (very few) real historical sources on pre-Christian religion in Britain.

Buy the Glennie Kindred hand written books. They are amazing and teach you everything you need to know!
