Which denomination is for me?

I've always been CofE. Always loved the CofE. But I'm struggling with the increasing push of TWAW. Obviously I don't wish harm on anyone, and the TW that attend my local Church are very welcome. But they are male. No one is born in the wrong body. I can't get behind an institution that is planning to teach gender ideology in their schools.

So what denomination do I want?
I love the tradition and liturgy of the CofE. I love that the words are the same. I love the hymns. We have occasional worship songs at my church and I love the mix of modern and traditional.
I don't want somewhere homophobic ( mum of lgb dc). I want female clergy to be welcome. I don't think I want "happy clappy" evangelical. But I'm willing to try.

Within 10 min walk of my house I have CofE, Baptist, I think there's a Hillsong Worship just opened, and an African (?) service. (Not sure what they are called/ their denomination)
Slightly further afield but still easily walkable there's a Catholic Church.
Then further again but possibly doable is a Methodist Church.

Go, say hello and visit the churches around the neighbourhood. It the way to see for yourself.

Thank you for your post, OP

I'm in exactly the same position and pondering the same alternatives. I love my church and I really don't want to go anywhere else. But ..... this is all wrong 😰

I don't know what is 'TWAW', but being as you have so many flavours and expressions of church close to you, I would say to try each one and see where you feel at home.

ZenNudist · 02/08/2024 07:47

I think you will struggle to get everything you want here. The Catholic Church does not support TWAW but wouldn't overtly condemn it either.

I'd have thought that the Catholic Church would be a good mix of traditional liturgy and hymns, less worship songs. You can join in communion for a blessing (it's a whole thing, hard to explain).

Anyway, I'd recommend it. Give us a try!

Thanks. I have to admit Catholic is probably the closest to what I'm used to. I'd just find it sad that I can't take communion there.

I don't want transpeople to face condemnation, there's actually a lovely TW who attends my current church. There's also one who's never been anything other than rude. (Which is a them thing I'm sure, they just happen to be a TW) It's the fact that the CofE are planning to start teaching children that they can be born in the wrong body. They can't.

I understand the logic from others about visiting them and seeing how I feel, but I've always felt at home where I am now. But I'm opposed to the direction they are taking on this issue.
The whole thing makes me so sad.

Now I think I understand what you meant by TWAW. If somebody with XY chromosomes wants to wear a full face of makeup, curlers, stockings and a frilly pink tutu to church - yes, they should be welcomed for who they are in any Christian church of any flavour. However, if what it seems that you are maybe saying is true, that the CofE is moving away from teaching that God created XY and YY in His own image, then they need to remember: they will be held accountable.

I hope you find somewhere to call home.

All the edits made me chuckle!

Yes TWAW means transwomen are women. Which I don't believe. But there was a thread on here about CofE schools having a consultation on teaching children that you can change sex. Which prompted me to start this, because of they go down that path then my beliefs are too out of step with theirs.

I'm happy to welcome anyone who is dressed appropriately for the activity. And for me that can mean short shorts. Or bare shoulders. I'm not a prude! But men in dresses are still men!

I gave up after the second edit. 😀

I agree, 100%, an XY in a dress is still a man. I love a kilt, btw. Not sure about the bare shoulders in church, but that's just a personal thing, and each to their own.

we don't have Orthodox churches here, that would be ideal. Catholic is good , inclusive but still traditional ?

Greenbike · 05/08/2024 21:02

I understand your position, OP, and sympathise. But the official position of the CofE is still that men and women are born different but equal, and in God’s image. CofE schools are funded by the state, educate lots of non-Christian children, and have to teach more or less what the government tells them to. But churches themselves don’t have to teach that. Unless your church is actively pushing trans activism from the pulpit, might you consider staying?

crystal1983 · 01/09/2024 15:18

Give the Catholic Church a try.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/09/2024 15:24

Also came to say, give the RC church a try. It can be more liberal than it seems. And my diocese has been very strong on what it taught in schools about trans stuff.
