Christian events/retreats

Hi,
Anyone been to any Christian events/retreats/conferences in the UK
that they would recommend? Willing to travel anywhere in the UK.
I was out of the faith for a few years and am recently trying to reconnect with God.
I'm interested in attending anything involving bible study, prayer, any events that might inspire a renewed and strengthened relationship with Jesus.
I'm not so much interested in music events (though of course some music is fine,) I'm more interested in reading, learning, listening, developing.
If there are any women's events, I'd be interested in that too.
Hope to hear from someone!

Just giving this a little bump as I know there are so many different places, but don't have any I can personally recommend.

Hi, @snowlady4. Can you say roughly where you are in the UK? I have a network of women I can ask who would know what might be helpful in your area. It's great that you are willing to travel, but it would also be good if there was something on your doorstep Smile

Scargill House in the Yorkshire Dales is a lovely place. I've been there a few times. I did what they called an introduction to retreats which was Friday to Sunday and they introduced you to several different spiritual practices.

I've been to Worth Abbey in sussex three times. They offer guided retreats (led by someone, on a theme) or individual retreats (more time to yourself and much more'open'). https://worthabbey.net/visiting/retreats/
St Bueno's in north wales is also a popular place (jesuit, based on ignatian exercises - again, offers a programme of retreats on themes)

This is also a useful website to find retreat centres around the UK

Edit: Monastic houses (monasteries and convents) often offer retreats so it could be worth finding out which are near you.

This is coming up in London in June: https://www.stpatricksoho.org/summits

It's a one-off event, but the parish hosting it do put on a lot of conferences and events.

In Cambridge, the Margaret Beaufort Institute hold a range of public lectures and courses. Some of them are also online.

Walsingham is popular for retreats and various events, you may want to check their calendar (the Catholic and Anglican shrines separately) to see what's coming up.

The Bible Summit - Dive into the inspired Word of God this summer

The Bible Summit will bring together renowned Biblical experts and teachers for a one-day event designed to help Catholics to encounter God in His Word.

Hi op, I went on a course called Discovering Christ last September and met many Christians of different faiths once a week. We had a prayer retreat day in a beautiful church and church hall. I made some new friends and explored faith, it was a great opportunity. The course is run all over the country so maybe Google it to see when and where it is running near you? Or if you don't have a particular flavour of faith in mind, you could check the diocese newsletters in your area, usually available on church websites.

Catholic retreats around the UK, I imagine most would be open to Christians of other denominations and non-Christians. Contact those you are interested in directly.

There is also a Community of Catholic Sisters formed in 2003 based in the area of Walsingham, Norfolk, the historic Marian Shrine beloved by Catholics, Anglican and Orthodox. They often run retreat for groups and individuals

You might find l'Abri really helpful.

Further afield a lot better f monasteries/ convents let people stay

I've been to Aylesford Priory for a day trip and really liked it. They do both Catholic and Anglican services and I could go with to both.

I also have been told about The Royal Foundation of St Katharine, Pleshey Retreat House in Chelmsford and Walisigham. Walsigham have both Catholic and Anglican services and it may be cheaper to stay at the Ballisa Catholic than the Anglican rooms. They are both really closely located as well.

Also look at Ashburnham Place in Sussex. My childhood church uses them to go for a weekend away. I have never been myself.

Oak Hall in Kent do retreat weekends (as well as holidays). www.oakhall.co.uk/browse/manor
