Hi we are late for this ,
but thankfully a father willing to do that .
a date has been pencilled in .

very nervous and excited .
we have done class already .

I am just wondering what s exactly will happen .
it’s only 2-3 adults maximum including god mother , plus father .
1-2 kids maximum .

dress up in white .

donate maybe £300 cash in envelope .

anything else I should be really mentally prepared .

I plan to have a chat with father after mass or over a phone call ( he is so busy and so hard to reach over email or phone )
before the baptism date .

Biting my nails ……

Are you having it during Sunday Mass or separately?

I was not even aware baptism can be done during mass time
:)

£300 for the priest seems an awful lot. My DS was a baby when baptised, I didn't 'tip' the priest, but I got flowers for the 2 lovely parish helpers who had been at the prep. sessions and set up on the day.

I don't know about Catholic churches, but in Anglican churches (similar ceremony despite doctrinal differences!) some churches only do it during the normal service time, some never do it during the normal service time, and some allow choice with parents who are regular churchgoers usually choosing the service time and those who are not choosing a "private" ceremony.

Have a chat with the priest before hand. He will help you, and put your mind at ease.
There may be a baptism candle lit to signify the light of the Holy Spirit and new life.

£300 donation is very generous... around here it would be £20 to £50 offered to the priest.

In Ireland a baptism shawl/blanket is needed for the ceremony. I was at a baptism once where one set of parents had no shawl for their baby and the priest was very rude about it. Awkward 😅

We gave £50 for the father and it was in Sunday mass.

Oh and my mum got baptism white cloths from the cathedral. A. Shawl would have been fine.

Candles are usually provided, flowers are not required. You need to find out from the priest or whoever you did your class with, what is expected. I gave the priest a book token instead.
