Gospel of Mark

I took part in a communal reading of Mark's Gospel at the weekend. A small group of us read a chapter each, out loud. It took about 90 minutes.
I'm posting to share what a wonderful experience it was, and I was wondering if any else had done the same.
It really, for me, brought out how Jesus came for everybody, even those of low status at the time, and makes me wish we could do more of this.

That sounds wonderful, I would love to be part of something like that.

One of my favourite things is to listen to David Suchet reading the Bible. It's on Youtube and I've recently downloaded it from Audible as well. He really brings the Gospels, and the Bible as a whole, to life for me.

I'm also listening to the radio play "The Man Who Would be King", by Dorothy Sayers (the crime writer). It's a little bit old-fashioned sounding now but enjoying it in the car with my son.

Just some recommendations. Smile

What did you particularly enjoy about it? Were there any lightbulb moments that made you find something new in your understanding? Do you think Mark offers something the other gospels don’t?

This sounds so lovely and thank you for sharing it with us. I also need to go hear Poirot read the Bible as I do love him (the actor! Also love the Bible of course)

For me, it's the Epistle to the Romans by Paul.

I felt there was an immediacy about it kydtm. Very little theology, very action based.

Do you think that it gives you more space to consider the meaning away from orthodox theological constraints?

Do you think it makes it more personal?

Sausagenbacon · 19/12/2023 16:15

I hadn't thought of it that way, but maybe you're right

You’ve clearly been impacted greatly by this moment it’s certainly worth meditating on why that is. Something new snd exciting was clearly experienced

For me, it's the Epistle to the Romans by Paul.

I've just done a 10 week course at church all about Romans (with video clips by Andrew Ollerenshaw). It was "supposed" to make me feel much more confident in the Gospel and has been a turning point for many people (including David Suchet!) but I'm not sure what I missed. It was interesting, but no lightbulb moments for me. Feeling cheated!

@FuzzyPuffling

Romans 6:23 says all that I feel needs to be said.

Sausagenbacon it's good to read that it was a wonderful experience for you. In my group when we do Bible study we take turns to read a few chapters out loud, each. Was it Mark's Gospel, especially, that moved you or the action of reading together in a group?
