Hi Ladies and fellow believers,

My husband and I work various shifts. When we have a chance we go out but today is a rainy day and I am home, my husband is home and I wonder how you would make sure you child does not spend the whole day bored or using the i pad - to make sure our kids do not use i pads the whole day, but in such a day what do you do ?

OP posts:

I am looking for Christian mum friends. Is this so hard these days? If it ok, i get it. Stay in peace.

Why not say that then, rather than ask on oddly phrased question without explaining why you you think Christian rainy day activities are different to say a Buddhist's or Jew's or atheist's rainy day activities?

JenniferBarkley · 02/08/2023 11:18

Wait until OP finds out that this is the Religion/Philosophy section (i.e. open to all) and not specifically Christian.

OP I'm a terrible heathen but I was raised Catholic, I don't think religion has any bearing on rainy day activities. Could you explain why you want to talk to Christian mums and not, say, mums with DC the same ages as yours?

JustaChristian · 02/08/2023 11:05

You can report what you want but this is the forum for the post. So it is not up to you really to decide what a poste wants to ask.

you posted exactly the same message in 2 different topics. That's not allowed.
I was trying to do you a favour by getting the one that had (at time of reporting) 0 replies taken down, rather than the other.

Stop being chippy. If you are a Christian you're supposed to absorb the blows, aren't you?

FWIW we did lots of crafts when my DC were small and it was rainy. And baking.

ImNotReallySpartacus · 02/08/2023 11:19

I think you should take your children out in the rain. God would not have created rain if he did not intend us to get wet.

loislovesstewie · 02/08/2023 11:21

Being bored is good for children;it makes them think and question.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/08/2023 11:22

If you are looking for Christian friends with children I suggest you contact local churches, most of which will run parent and child group activities. They are open to everyone, though. Most churches do not discriminate against those of other/no faith so you will have to tolerate non-Christian’s if you choose to attend.
If you are not able to do so, your social circle will obviously be extremely limited.

gogomoto · 02/08/2023 11:23

@JustaChristian

Just like any other family. Mine were brought up attending church, choristers etc but we did the same activities as other families otherwise including computer gaming, music gigs etc. being Christian doesn't limit fun

Being a Christian ( wether i am old or new convert ) is a protected characteristic in the Equality Act. I have right to ask questions on this forum and not be bullied as many other women asked many religious things over the years.

I agree that in the normal course of events being a Christian is a protected characteristic.

However. Free speech isn't what you seem to think it is. This forum is a private area and while MN are shit hot on deleting abusive posts (am going to assume you got my first post on here zapped - it was only saying i reported it as a duplicate of another thread - nothing actually insulting in that, i explained i was doing it as a favour) being asked why you are putting the focus on Christian while not actually asking for Christianity based activites is confusing.

Are you asking for specifically Christian based activities? or are you asking for general rainy day activities?

I do think the odd day with tech is ok for children, they need to learn how to use the tech and consume the media. But you're right to restrict it generally.

Which reminds me, are you familiar with the Animated (US) series Veggie Tales? they are Christian based storys featuring vegetables that are rather sweet. My children watched and enjoyed them even though we're atheists. Available in YouTube i think

JaukiVexnoydi · 02/08/2023 11:24

I'm a Christian mum and I am sure my answers are no different from non-Christian mums. On a rainy day we would do lego (a favourite thing would be to try to make a "baby" version of something that we have a big-box set for; or making something more ambitious like a pyramid with tomb chamber, sarcophagus etc), or craft activities, or a board game, or going swimming or to a museum.

As far as the Christianity aspect goes, I think that might inspire you to reach out to see if other young families nearby who are similarly struggling with the rainy holidays and to try to plan something together, in order to provide mutual support and build up community bonds - which is obviously something that non-Christians can and often will do too, but that's because a lot of the best bits of Christianity boil down to "don't be a selfish prick, think about other people not just your own concerns" and that could also be described as common decency that many people don't feel the need to tie to a religion.

DappledThings

I wonder where are the ladies like you?

Oh, we're you hoping to meet Christian ladies for activities?

Singleandproud · 02/08/2023 11:27

Look at your local church for Messy Church sessions for in person Christian friendship or perhaps contact and volunteer to run something similar at your church.

DDs best friends Dad was a Reverand and they would have what I guess were Sunday school style activities displayed on the fridge, bible story colouring sheets etc. They were also very big on musical education and the children were talented musicians and performed with other musicians at the church.

Brefugee · 02/08/2023 11:29

YesitsBess · 02/08/2023 11:25

Oh, we're you hoping to meet Christian ladies for activities?

that's a legit question, though - do we have separate topics/conversations for faith-based mum-chat? that might be a good idea

EugeneEufy · 02/08/2023 11:29

I might take my children out in the car as it’s raining and look at churches. Is that Christian enough? I’ll get them to wave if we see a vicar.

Singleandproud · 02/08/2023 11:31

Refit revolution is a Christian zumba style exercise group that posts lots of exercise videos on YouTube, they use both modern pop music and Christian music if you wanted to exercise alongside your children.

Brefugee · 02/08/2023 11:31

@JustaChristian try this (it's Part 3 but you can try it to see if it's ok for you)

i see the newer ones are computer generated art and i don't like them quite as much
be careful: the theme tune gives me an ear worm. I often sing it in the veg aisle of the supermarket

VeggieTales | Saved From the Lions Den | Old Testament (Part 3)

Daniel in the lions' den tells of how the biblical Daniel is saved from lions by the God of Israel "because I was found blameless before him".🍅 Subscribe to...

We’re atheists. That’s not a bad idea. Our kids loved churches and cathedrals, still do as adults, fantastic buildings. Lots have really nice (cheap) cafes too 😃

JaukiVexnoydi · 02/08/2023 11:32

DappledThings · 02/08/2023 11:16

Ah. Well that makes more sense and is quite different from your original post.

You want more of a Christian forum for general chat. Which this isn't.

@JustaChristian there's a really nice forum called Ship of Fools which may be what you are looking for. Its quite similar to mumsnet in a lot of ways, in that both forums are nominally for a particular group (mums in the case of mumsnet, Christians in the case of Ship of Fools) but are open to anyone who isn't in this group too, and will discuss anything at all no matter how tenuously related (or entirely unrelated) to that central concept. There are 3 zones - "Hell" is like MNs AIBU for people who want to fight about stuff, "Purgatory" is for in-depth serious conversations and "Heaven" is for lighthearted and social stuff. Looking in "Heaven" for a mums thread might be better than looking on MN for a christians thread.

Andrasa · 02/08/2023 11:34

If you want to find out where Christian mums hang out why not ask that? Otherwise you’ll just get everyone saying crafts and baking and Lego which is all done at home and won’t help to meet anyone.

my local church has some really great groups for kids where I imagine a higher percentage of people are religious so may help meeting similar mums. Does your church do coffee morning type stuff? Volunteering? To be honest I have no idea which of my friends are religious or not 🤔 I still go to church sometimes but wouldn’t say I’m religious, I just like the songs and e.g. Christmas Eve.

You may also find you have more in common with other non-Christian but still religious mums than in someone atheist, as most faiths are pretty similar (be nice to people, incorporate faith into daily life, go to worship).

JudgeRudy · 02/08/2023 11:35

JustaChristian · 02/08/2023 10:55

LOL, Seems loads of hateful and nastiness against me of adressing Christian mums in the holiday forum. I wanted to adress Christian mums with clear Christian families values and how they do a rainy day in holiday.

What an odd post. In what (major) way would a Christian family rainy day differ to a Jewish/Islamic/atheist one? Board games, family film, crafts, build a den, put on a play, music, rough n tumble etc

Is there anything like a Mother's Union attached to your church? Or a toddler group? You might find RL friends there!

loislovesstewie · 02/08/2023 11:41

Surely if you attend church then you meet like minded people and those people might have children or activities are arranged through that church? Which is why I am so puzzled by this post.

JudgeRudy · 02/08/2023 11:47

JustaChristian · 02/08/2023 11:01

Would you attack someone's post from a fellow poster who is a Muslim or a Buddhist with such ungliness and vileness?

You're not being attacked though, you're being challenged. I'm pretty sure a similar post from a Muslim or Jew would get a similar response. Let's say you were a vegan, I'm not gonna suggest you go fishing, or perhaps if you were Muslim/Jewish I wouldn't recommend a trip to Peppa Pig world...I just think people are struggling to understand what Christian family values would be. Eg would a game of Monopoly be ruled out because it encouraged greed, would Barbie need to stay clothed until she's married? I think sometimes 'non religioys' people are offended at the implication that their morals are somewhat inferior because they don't have a list of rules to follow.
