Just this really! I believe early old testament should be read with the context of when it was written, pre scientific era and Revelation was just someone quite possibly tripping out on mushrooms....but everything in-between I've no problem with.

Given whats going in the world atm and in particular climate change, its possible Revelations is the most accurate part?

Whatchristianami · 21/07/2023 21:39

@User123456713 I just cant get my head around it. It's so different from the rest of the bible. I admit some aspects are happening/ have happened but I think that's just John's educated guesswork written with the best of intentions...
Anyway...what branch of christianity thinks the same as me is what I'm after currently not a debate x

You have described mainstream Christianity in England. There is a conservative strand in all of them but most C of E, RC, Methodist and URC churches wouldn't blink an eye at what you have described. Stay clear of independent reformed churches and you should be fine.

I agree, most Christian’s think this unless they’re in some kind of arm waving tongue speaking cult.

Think most people recognise that much of Revelation was a commentary on the Roman Empire using biblical symbology don’t they?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2023 13:44

I think Luther didn't want it included in the Protestant canon.

I was raised Roman Catholic and was genuinely baffled to discover anyone taking those things seriously, let alone literally.

We all understood that the priest had his work cut out trying to pull a sermon together and cut him a bit of slack as the representative of the brand, and all that. But the ones who had continued to study theology (beyond their training) generally did explain context, culture, translation debates, symbolism etc.
