Gem stones

Does any believe that wearing a certain stone can bring energy and positivity..?

I have a large collection of crystals, but I don’t believe they have magical properties.

However the human brain is remarkable, and if the wearer believes that a particular stone might help, well it possibly will - placebo effect.

In hypnotherapy and meditation it’s possible to use an object to increase the speed at which you get into hypnosis or a meditative state, which I have done, but again that’s harnessing the brain, not the object.

We’re just starting to scratch the surface in understanding the brain.

Just to add, if a person believes in crystals and uses them to help themselves, I have no problem with it, just like I can accept people following certain religions.

I use certain stones but I don’t think they objectively have any power is the observation of them and interaction with the person that creates their energy, kind of like @PtarmisanCheese says-its good for meditation etc (although I think more than the logical brain is involved). The correspondences of the stones also I think trigger certain reactions in the observer too.

but hand a particular piece of rock over to DH and I don’t think it will have any effect whatsoever.

But they’re my thoughts, others will obviously differ in their own experiences and that’s the point that really matters. What does it mean to you. Totally respect others for that.

Nope. A rock is a rock. I love to wear them though

Considering that most of the stones bought for this purpose are mined by people ( including children) working in terrible and dangerous conditions and often forced labour, no I don’t believe they have any good effects whatsoever. Add into the mix the links with terrorism and organised crime and II’m very disappointed that people are still buying them.

Do you feel the same about people having phones with lithium batteries or electric cars, or wearing cheap clothes? (Absolutely not trying to be an arse here, or start a bunfight!).

High end gemstones of course have links to criminal activity, but it’s possible to avoid these by buying from ethical sources, or by avoiding precious stones altogether

Diamonds are a rather common gemstone, whose value is directly linked to criminal activity, money laundering, mafia type set ups. Other precious gems have similar links. It’s fairly easy to bypass this by not buying stones commonly sought for high end jewellery making.

I have a few crystals (mostly rough) whose provenance I’m not 100% sure of, but most of mine are bought via rock hunters funding their hobby, through social media.

My favourite rock is a large (but poor quality) carnelian which was picked up by a shop owner/rock hunter who was trekking in Oregon and literally stumbled over it in a dry river bed, and brought it back over to the UK. The same person has also personally found Cornish amethyst, fossilised shark teeth, quartz, herkimer diamonds, mookaite and more during his travels, very ethically and above board, and I’m happy to buy from him.

This is a good supplier of ethically sourced gemstones in the UK. Some (eg amethyst can be sourced in the UK).

I do (and buy very little new) but people need clothes. No one needs these stones.

They don't have to be high end to be tainted either - look at the supply chain for Lapis Lazuli. I can buy tumble stones for a couple of ££. . Brazil has an appalling environmental record and as soon as you start to look you quickly find just how steeped in misery these pretty pebbles are. Most stones mined in Madagascar are suspect and the vast majority of UK resellers neither know or care about the supply chain

Those that do are often hopelessly naive about it and take the wholesaler's word for it that the stones are ethically mined....

You are very much in the minority by using only stones that you are confident of the provenance. I will only use those that I have picked up myself

Positive thinking is really powerful and gemstones are really pretty! Been searching on Etsy for something unique I can wear, but probably not ethical... https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/YEEKEIstudio
