Is this appropriate bible stories book
Its for bils ds, BIL doesn't even know what catholic is, his GF is apparently catholic - they say they are doing it for school purposes but knowing bils gf it will all be for the sake of the attention not the religion.
Mil asked dp today what we will be getting the child and from what she said it sounds like BIL and GF are expecting toys and clothes. This seems strange to me - in my family we give religious things such as a crucifix for later on or a candle.
DPs family seem to look for reasons to pick fault with me so I need some advice as to whethr a book of bible stories might be a compromise between my wanting to get a religious thing and the childs parents expecting toys. Or would it just be another opportunity for them to snipe at me?
Dp said to send money instead but I am not sending money to a couple that don't even buy my ds's birthday presents.

a book of bible stories is lovely and if it for school purposes should come in useful later. My ds still uses his now , a present from his christening to discuss things they have learnt at school.

They look great.
I was somewhat surprised and disappointed that no-one bought dd a bible or bible stories book for her Christening (but she did get 5 or 6 money boxes ) .

I think a good children's bible is good. I have a few, one is really basic with lift the flap. It is suitable for even a tiny baby (I assume it is a baby). If older child still a good idea. Actually the bible stories are good stories. If the child is they type that has no concentration, then get one that is as interactive as pos.

Maybe you should try to get to a big book shop like borders (or a big library and then order later on amazon) - find out one that is going to be fun for the child.

My family also give religious things for christenings, and I don't think you should get toys etc just because they expect it, if you don't feel right doing that.

Thats reassuring.
None of dps family ever go to church but make a big fuss about christenings. I just feel like they will think its 'weird' if I get a religious gift (yes for a christening, they miss the whole point don't they!!) and I need to convince myself that this book will be a good compromise but can almost hear mil sneering 'what on earth did she get him THAT for?' after we have gone home....
