How do you conceptualise god?

Just that really. Atheist, believer or agnostic what do you think of when someone says god? Not a judgement about existence, what concept comes to mind, if you’re a believer (of any faith) how do you conceptualise your god (inc in the plural and feminine)

Ah so yes, your thoughts are people are thick as mince of they believe in God. Not very enlightening is it?

Oh, you're only interetsed in answers which you judge to be enlightening within your existing belief system? Maybe you should have made that clearer.

JustKen · 08/09/2023 16:08

I'm an atheist. God to me is a mythical figure. S/he/It is a story. You can believe it, or not. I don't.

As a force for good that thrives in everything - animate and inanimate, in this world, the universe and beyond. All-knowing and all-creating. A sort of anima - positive, present and conscious in every cell of everything, everywhere.

Completely meaningless nonsense.

MasterBeth · 08/09/2023 16:13

A force for good in a dogshit. How does that work?

Good? What good?

MasterBeth · 08/09/2023 16:17

A force for good in a baby's brain cancer.

An angry, narcissistic, impotent old man on a cloud. Kind of like a Trump figure but without the fake tan. Definitely the Terry Gilliam version Grin

Don’t care if people disagree with me, I’m not a fan of people who think equating God to the tooth fairy is a good argument. Or people saying others are as “thick as mince” then failing to provide anything near an informed and well constructed argument.

You’re not great at understanding how debates work are you. It’s almost like you have a position and don’t just roll over and agree with any shit😀

I equate god to the tooth fairy as they are both imaginary characters. What’s to debate?

OMG12 · 09/09/2023 15:46

Well maybe discuss how you reached that conclusion?

Neither exist but some people imagine that they are real.

OMG12 · 09/09/2023 16:01

How did you conclude the non-existence of God. Presumably you have weighed the matter up and cane down on one side of the argument for a reason

One presumes because there is no evidence?

keffie12 · 09/09/2023 20:40

I had a childhood notion of God on a cloud, punative, and punishing. That changed when I entered a program 20 years ago - 12 step program. The way I see God had been forever changing as I have spiritually grown and changed.

I only use the name God in settings or/and with people it would be disrespectful, not too.

My spiritual life is based on Omnism. Believing that all comes from the one and that there are truth and truthes in everything.

I listen to alot of different speakers from the perennial, mystical tradition of the Franscans (Fr Richard Rohr/Thomas Merton and so on), which was the original Christian faith before The Romans and then Henry Viii came along and made it into man made rather than spiritual inner life way of living.

Then I also listen to Buddhism/Non duality and various too.

God using that name is not a noun. God is a verb, an action an energy.

My names for the spirit of the universe vary. A few are listed below.

I see God as and use

1/ Energy unseen
2/ Universe
3/ Higher Power
4/ Bleep bleep bleep - swear words when I'm in a mood with the energy of God as I don't understand
5/ Either
6/ Umbilical cord of the universe

God is not he or she. God name is genderless and was always meant to be that way until man messed it up.

Exactly!

But what is there no evidence of?

I view God much like the lead character in any other fictional story book. Similar to Robinson Crusoe, the BFG or Charlie Brown. Just different super powers.

Spendonsend · 09/09/2023 22:55

I conceptualise god as a indifferent structure thats part of the universe. All the bits that arent things we've identified but holding it all together somehow.

It’s not a bad analogy. Why do you think humans are drawn to write stories about essentially the sane character(s) throughout time?
