God's in control so I'm not worried (about a heart attack)

A colleague’s husband had a heart attack a few days ago and was released out of hospital after a day or two and told to take it easy, he has been given medication. I said to the colleague that she must have been so worried, but she said she wasn’t, because she trusts God and she knows God is in control. I would have been terrified in her shoes. How do you actually have that kind of faith, and not worry? Can you have faith and still worry, or does that make you a terrible Christian?

Ah this is something I've always struggled with - similar to "god will heal you if your faith is strong enough".

At best this is deluded.

I stopped being a Christian after my children died. No amount of faith/prayer helped them.

As for trusting in god to support you/help you deal with whatever happens, still no.

worktired I am sorry for your loss.
The idea of a god can be very harmful.
Most of m family are devout christians, my sister in particular, she prays for fucking parking spots in town, amd says her prayers are always answered.
Over 3 million children die per year from starvation, how the fuck can someone be gleeful at god sending a parking space.
I am glad god is a fictional character- if he existed he would be a pychopathic monster.

A gentleman in church today was talking to me about God being in charge, and having a plan. It helps him manage the fear and anxiety of supporting his wife through a recent diagnosis of terminal cancer. His first wife died of cancer as well.

It isn't a demand that she be healed, just a comfort from believing God, who came to earth as a powerless human and died, understands his pain.

Obviously it's not something that's going to help people who aren't Christian. It's something Christians can aspire to accepting, work towards experiencing.

And most obviously it's not compulsory! Everyone gets to choose what to focus on.
