I started on one yesterday and would love to hear from others who have been on it.

I've been involved in leading one. The away day was much as Sue has described. Gentle and respectful. If God wants to do stuff he will but it's not forced or wacky (well I guess again it depends on who is leading it.)
Beeper I am glad you have come to faith but have to disagree about alpha being doctrinally flawed. It's pretty mainstream stuff and yes there are faults but it's a good all round introduction to and explanation of Christianity. The Holy Spirit stuff is only what is bible based, and experiencing the HS and God's power isn't based on whether you have repented/got yourself totally sorted spiritually first. God's bigger than that....

thanks for that, i was going to look for ways to get out of going on the away day, but you've convinced me not to run away scared!

HI again

yeah I loved the day away but I enjoyed the whole course for that matter as it was all pretty new (but now I realise pretty basic which was what I needed). At the time I was very much searching - I became a christian after the whole alpha course had finished actually once I had weighed up whether I believed in the gospel or not.

Alpha played a huge part in me making this decision as I felt informed but not pressured so for this reason I think Alpha is excellent.

I enjoyed the day away and if anyone had had any expectations of me to perform ie fall on floor or anything (not that they did in the slightest) then I would have told them where to sling their hook!

My group wasnt whacky in the slightest, nor any groups Ive known actually - very mainstream and friendly

Hope that helps it was 6 years ago and 2 children have ruined my memory since
