Alternatives to Alpha?

Does anyone know of something similar to Alpha but which is less evangelical?

I am pretty committed about my faith but have so many questions and confusions I’d like to discuss with others. I don’t get to church very often due to wish but when I do it’s usually the cathedral services in the city where I work or a nearby (very) high church. I’d describe myself as a liberal catholic Anglican! Anyone know if any courses or forums to explore my faith/questions. And even doubts - I feel faith is partially about acknowledging the doubts and revelling in them!

I've run the Pilgrim courses in three different churches. I like the mixture of input and discussion.

We ran a course called Start which fits with dm what you are looking for.

Not a course but I’d really recommend Rowan William’s writing to you, as he’s pretty much exactly where you are and has written some great books.

I found the webpage about the Pilgrim course - it seems to be possibly what I’m looking for. Any ideas how I find out where a church might be hosting it?

I’ve also just ordered Rowan Williams book Being Disciples.

We run Start, and we are super evangelical. It is more about discerning spiritual gifts, rather than Christian basics.

The liberal catholic church in our deanery runs Emmaus.

Rico Tice and All Souls Langham Place = extremely evangelical

You can attend RCIA (the RIte of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes at a Catholic parish. They are classes to prepare people who are thinking seriously about entering the Catholic Church, but there is no obligation. They usually run about 8 or 9 months a year and finish at Easter. If you are interested in exploring deep questions, theology and prayer you might really enjoy them. You can contact any Catholic Parish and ask them. If you are in North London, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh or Leicester I would recommend contacting the Dominican priests there as they will be really good at chatting about all these issues. A lot of their work is working with new Christians or those that are exploring.

Does the church you go to have any home groups or small groups you could go to where it'll just be discussion with other people of that belief system?

Sorry? What’s the association?

DancingSunflowers · 11/11/2022 20:43

Christianity Explored! Way better in my view.

Toadfish123 · 14/12/2022 14:59

I've done Christianity explored I enjoyed it but it's v conservative more so than alpha so not really what OP is looking for I think.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2022 15:03

@Runover was also going to suggest the RCIA. And completely agree about the Dominicans they would be fab.

TooTiredToWork · 14/12/2022 16:36

Isn’t RCIA for adults joining the Roman Catholic Church? Whilst i
definitely more high church than evangelical and maybe even catholic with a small ‘c’ I am also CofE and Anglican through and through! Not thinking of joining Rome.

I have downloaded Rowan Williams book - have only read the first chapter but finding it very interesting and thought provoking. I think ideally I’d like some one on one chat/direction from the former ABC himself!!!!

Convert to Catholicism and receive instruction? (You can get quite a bit of time to chat to a Priest about stuff you've been thinking about.)
