Hmmm... so is today the autumn equinox? According to BBC weather it is. I'm quite confused as to what day it falls on Ah well, I'm sure it doesn't matter too much!

I'm feeling tired this evening after a very busy week. I was in London yesterday for a work conference which was great but very fast paced - made my head spin!

I feel very much ready for the autumn and the darker evenings. I love having all the my candles on, my lounge feels very cosy. I'm planning some batch cooking this weekend, nourishing lentil soup and a spicy curry I think. I'm going to a womens new moon circle on Sunday so very much looking forward to that. Just being in the company of like minded women is so good for the soul - just like this thread 😊

Hope you see all having a restful Friday night and sending positivity for the week ahead.

speakout · 23/09/2022 19:54

It is confusing isn't it.
This year the exact point is 02:03 Friday 23rd Sept. but the day and time vary each year. Something to do with the Earth's eliptical orbit and the inexactitude of our Gregorian calander but I can't claim to understand- and agree it does/n't matter too much.
I do think that festivals in the year are fuzzy rather than fixed, I feel the energies of these events over a long period- at least a week.
I drove to yoga this morning at sunrise- and watched flocks of geese flying overhead in v formations arriving at their winter destinations. To me these events are also markers of the seasons.
VioletCharlotte wonderful to hear of your self nurturing activities and yummy food. I agree that being in the presence of like minded women is healing and supportive.
My early yoga class was focussed on moon salutations, wonderful at any phase, but very grounding and healing.
I have my next woman's circle on the full moon, so a couple of weeks yet.
I am heading for bed soon, having my sleepy time tea, and looking forward to a peaceful sleep.
Sweet dreams sisters.0

I'm sure I read something saying equinox is the 25th, but at the time, I thought, that can't be right.

i love seeing geese in their V formation!

Happy belated Mabon, I hope you all had a wonderful day.

@speakout ah thank you😊. Yep we live in it all year, the furthest we’ve travelled so far is to Llangollen from London, we have a home mooring in a village where my DM lives that’s by good schools for when DC are older but we currently spend most of the time continuously cruising, which means we usually have a max of 2 weeks in one spot before we move to the next. We’ve lived in it for 3 years now. If anyone has any more questions though I’m super happy to answer them, I know it’s a bit more of an alternative way of life so lots of people have questions😊

@VioletCharlotte your cooking sounds delicious! I hope you enjoy your womens circle that sounds divine

I have a womb blessing ceremony soon that I’m really excited for and I’m looking at some pregnancy circles to go to before this little one comes along🤗

speakout · 25/09/2022 07:01

Dark moon blessings sisters. This afternoon we herald a new moon in Libra, bringing fresh energy and balance to relationships, including our relationship with self.
Meanwhile we play in the shadows of the dark moon a place for calm and refection, to pur salve on our wounds and worries healing our pain before emerging again into the light.
I have had a mindful week, I love how a holiday allows us to see our home with fresh eyes I have been noticing how comfortable my home is- just the simple things like soft sheets, just the right number of pillows, having my books and oracle cards to hand, favourite teas near the kettle.
I cleared out my front porch yesterday, a lot of stuff taken to the recycling facility and charity shop. I washed the windows, swept and mopped the floor, ready to have some autumn decorations including my besom.
Your womb blessing ceremony sounds amazing. barefootnomadmam I hope it will prepare you for work ahead and a calm easy birth.
One thing I wonder about boat life is how you manage for space- do you store things elsewhere? I am quite minimalist when it comes to stuff, but things like old photos, keepsakes, kitchen equipment, tools etc take up space.
Also do you grow thing on your boat? Is there space for pots etc on deck?
I have visited Amsterdam a few times and have seen many people who live on boats, including an animal rescue boat- totally amazing.
I am having a slow start to the morning, some skin care, tarot, meditation, folding and putting away laundry- a task I used to dislike a lot, but I had a meeting with myself and worked out a strategy to become mindful with this work. It is a job I actually enjoy now.
I have a yoga class at 9am, and a slow day of work and pottering.
I also have a kitten coming to stay for a week, while DD goes on holiday - which will be lovely. He has the loudest purr of any cat I have known, and purrs very readily. Him and his litter mates were found in a cardboard box at just 3 or 4 days old, so raised in a foster home fed by hand. Consequently he is extremely fond of humans- loves attention and contact.
Dawn has just broken here, so time to start getting ready for my day ahead.

The trees are starting to turn, the conkers are falling and the weather is dropping enough for the winter woolies to need to be retreived. I am in that heading towards hibernation phase. Definitely slowing down and less willing to be out and about in the evenings. It is getting dark so early now Sad

Every year it surprises me how it gets dark so early. It's suddenly upon us whereas the lighter evenings feels like a gradual process.

I'm looking forward to hunkering down this Autumn and getting to know my baby. It amazes how they are all born with their own personalities. She is 18 days old, I still feel like I've been run over by a steam roller but I love her so very much.

VioletCharlotte · 27/09/2022 20:41

Hills I was thinking earlier today about how it's suddenly feeling very autumnal. The weathers been so warm here with temperatures in the high teens/ low 20's. The sudden drop this week has been a bit of a shock and the wind is making it feel colder.

On my walk today I noticed that the trees are starting to turn. The hedgerows are full of rosehip and hawthorn and acorns are dropping from 'my' oak tree. Last week was really busy and social, which was lovely, but it's left me exhausted and feeling like I want to hibernate. Cancelled plans for this evening, cooked myself a delicious spicy curry, now I'm curled up on the sofa in my dressing gown!

TurquoiseDreamCatcher it's lovely to hear from you, so glad that little one is doing well. Be kind to yourself and take it easy. Women are pushed into 'bouncing back' from birth far too quickly in my opinion. Make the most of this precious time with your baby.

Speakout. I hope you're enjoying kitten sitting. I would love a cat but my dog doesn't share the sentiment unfortunately!

Welcome MsReid good to have you with us.

speakout · 28/09/2022 08:19

TurquoiseDreamCatcher glad to hear things are going well with your new baby- I agree with VioletCharlotte don't feel rushed or pressured into getting back to "normal", take your time, you have healing work still to do, and caring for a newborn is a big task.
The spicy curry sounds lovely VioletCharlotte.
I have my eye on a sweet and sour tofu recipe, but I am the only one who likes tofu. I may let others fend for themselves- I can cook a tray lof jacket potatoes for everyone else.
I love these darker evenings too- candle light and playing in the shadows. Perfect for reading, curling up with a warm cup.

Ahh @TurquoiseDreamCatcher that made me smile, I was thinking of you and glad there was a little update! Hope you're still enjoying these precious first few weeks and feel less steamrollered soon 💙

I've had a weird few weeks again, with a family death and an insane work schedule, and mercury retrograde wreaking havoc on my websites and causing me some late nights fixing them - but I took some time out on Wednesday to just paint and journal and breathe which did me good. Attached a pic of the little silver ink hare which was the first thing I did that day!

And I've been indulging in some of the wonderful witchy home decor that's around at this time of year - a sparkly tablecloth, some very cute hanging hats and glittery bats, a cauldron shaped mug and a small collection of pumpkins Grin nothing expensive but bringing me a lot of joy - sometimes it's the little things!

Today is a mix of mundane and magic, I've got monthly money shuffling and a bunch of admin for my stationery company to do, some chocolate to pick up for an event tomorrow, a few emails to clients and enquiries to send, and my monthly review and tarot pull and intention setting, which is one of my favourite parts of the month!

Have a lovely Friday and weekend, sisters x

Any Witches Here?- Part 17.
MsReid · 30/09/2022 23:56

Thank you for welcoming me. I’m loving these cosy, dark evenings. Although the wind has caused havoc with our crops.

hilariousnamehere · 01/10/2022 21:50

Ooh what do you grow @MsReid ? And definitely welcome! Sorry, I got carried away waffling in previous post 💙

speakout · 02/10/2022 07:24

I love that hare drawing hilariousnamehere- you have inspired me to start drawing again. I bought a load of materials in the summer, and the winter months and long evenings are perfect for curling up with a sketchbook. MsReid like you I love playing in the shadows in the winter months. Sorry to hear of your crops I hope they can be salvaged. What do you grow?

I had to get a new washing machine yesterday, my old one started making a dreadful grinding noise with smoke coming from the back. The supplier did a great job in replacing though, and took away the old one for recycling. I just don't enjoy spending money on things like washing machines- they are neccessary though. I am so grateful to have a washing machine.
I have a 9am yoga class today, so just taking a slow time to get ready, one of my favourite times of the day.
It's a cold morning here, so have had to put on the heating for half an hour. Seems quite a luxury nowadays!
I have a new app on my iphone called Nightsky. It is so amazing. Using GPS it give a map of the current sky in your location. So if you need to identify an object in the sky you can hold up the phone towards that portion of the sky and planets, stars, the space station as it passes even meteors will be shown and tagged. It also outlines far galaxies and constellations with ethereal glassy drawings, quite beautiful.
I am taken aback at the number of satellites and space junk in orbit though, things are very crowded up there. You can choose not to see these objects though, and only watch the natural world.
I am excited at getting to know the sky a little better, especially as we have long dark evenings in the months ahead.
I am toying with the idea of selling at a Yule witch market, I am really on the fence. Weighing up the pros and cons. I have offers of help from my DD and her friends, but for a one off event it seems a lot of work. And I would want my stand to be eye catching if I did it at all. It would be amazing to meet customers and be surrounded by so many like minded people, so I am still mulling it over.
I have done a few of these events at food markets for a friend when she is short staffed- usually single handedly- she manufactures flavoured oils. A lot of fun, but a lot of work, so I am still not sure.
It looks like a bright crisp autumn day ahead, so that will be amazing, I am excited to get into my winter clothes, especially my Nordic socks!

Oh no worries! We grow onions, radishes, tomatoes, peas, lettuce, cauliflower, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, aubergines, broad beans, sprouts, celery, courgettes, garlic, leeks, parsnips, rhubarb, spinach and turnips for veg. Then basil, coriander, dill, parsley, chives, fennel, thyme, mint and rosemary for herbs. We also have black and red currants, blueberries and blackberries, gooseberries, mulberries, raspberries, strawberries. And we have olive, apple, pear, plum and damson trees. I’m hoping to expand our greenhouse to have some citrus fruits soon too. It’s a lot of work but it’s so rewarding

speakout · 04/10/2022 06:55

Oh wow MsReid how amazing. Are the crops for family use or do you grow as a business?
Growing gives so much pleasure doesn't it. We grew a lot when I was a child-and I learned a lot about gardening.
Something I would love to do more of but have neither the time nor space , I have to content myself with some fruit trees and bushes annd some indoor veg.
I am looking through your list, do you live in the South of the UK? I know lots of those crops wouldn't grow outdoors in my Northern situation.
Nothing tastes so good as home grown produce.

Speakout I was thinking similar and that in order for the citrus to survive even in a green house it would need to be heated. And then the practical side of me kicked in and went ouch at the cost of that. Although there is the roman model for heating, and more modern techniques such as rocket heaters with heat sumps etc. And down into a worm hole my brain wandered.

That amazing with all that you are growing MsReid I am just hoping to successfully get an autumn planting of onions and garlic to yield. Not tried this so it is a complete experiment.

It appears SAD has hit me early this year - really early and it is slightly unnerving. I am hoping it is more burnout and general stress. I have respite coming up later this month and it is long long long overdue. Also got an exam next week. lets be honest this is going to be stress, i just don't want to admit it to myself

Interplaying study and revision with shenanigans in the kitchen. I roasted the first pumpkin of the season yesterday, so it is ready to be pureed and than a pie created if i remember to pick up ready to roll pastry as i have neither time nor energy to make pastry today. But Eating pie, that seems a delightful thing to be doing BlushGrin I seem to be very food orientated...

It’s primarily for our family as we’re in quite a remote area so it’s easier than the trip it takes to get to a decent supermarket but we do sell/donate to nearby villages as well, it’s not a business as such though. We’re up north but have a heated greenhouse as @HillsBesideTheSea mentioned. It was a big cost upfront because we splurged on a good greenhouse and heating but it’s meant saving on costs in the long run. It is a lot of work but it’s really rewarding and something I’ve always dreamt of doing.

Good luck with your onions and garlic. I started out with watercress on my kitchen windowsill and slowly eased my way up. We don’t have large amounts of each plant just enough for our family so although it seems like a lot it isn’t on a farm scale. Really sorry to hear about your stress-hopefully after your exam and some respite you will be feeling more yourself

speakout · 05/10/2022 07:12

MsReid it is lovely to hear of your gardening success.
You must have green fingers- but like plants green fingers can be cultivated!
We are losing these skills as a society, the knowledge to grow, craft, make, mend.
Only a few generations ago most families would be cultivating a patch of ground to supplement food, but these skills are being forgotten left to mega farmers with their intense practices which bring cheap food but damage land.
It is a cool blustery morning here, still dark, feeling very like autumn.
I may make a crumble later, and maybe some soup, I love how all these comforting foods suddenly feel so "right" at this time of year.
My local small town has halloween decorations up, a seating circle in the centre has been adorned with witches, pointed hats and robes that flow in the wind.
There is also a Halloween fair planned, a craft fair and children's party. So good to see these things Happening. Our town has a very witchy flavour. Again I would love to sell at the craft fair, but I don't have the staging, and I am just about managing to keep up with online orders at this time of year.
I will attend and buy to give support to local businesses.
Sorry to hear your mood taking a yearly tumble. I hope you have ways to help you get through the winter months. We need to prioritise our own well being-I need to remind myself of that on a daily basis.
On that note I am off to yoga again his morning, and remind myself how fortunate I am to have attended five classes in the past six days.
I am grateful for the time and the fact classes are run so close to my home.
I also have my full moon women's circle this Sunday, I am excited to attend.
I know some of you attend similar events, I would love to hear of them.

@MsReid it's lovely to hear your growing adventures! In past years we have been about 60% self sufficent feeding ourselves at peak growing times. It really makes a difference not only to the budget but I think also how we approach diet and seasonal eating. I found myself looking forward to strawberries so much more when only eating what we grew and not buying foreign imports out of season! I've really not kept on top of it the last few years but the lockdowns reignited my desire to get back to it.
I've planted my garlic this week as last year I left it far too late and it just never really grew properly (though this summer was a challenging growing year for everyone I think)
I actually have an acre elsewhere and the plan was to put on a polytunnel but health issues put a stop to that. We were going to build an eco house to live in but various obstacles also mean that isn't happening either, so now I am looking to Bealtaine Cottage for inspiriation to plant it up for nature instead.

Another one who is feeling the SAD hitting early. I really must get my light box out. I have restocked necessary vitamins and supplements too, to carry the family through winter.
My teen has been quite ill, and this is the first time since he moved out. Though he is with his dad I am still feeling a little anxious as our approach to illness is quite different. I guess at this point though he is basically an adult, and I have to respect how he wants to deal with it. I'm hoping he has picked up the right coping strategies from me over the years.

Well this is the longest post from me in a while! I check in and read daily, but as with others don't always have anything to add.

VioletCharlotte · 05/10/2022 20:57

Another one who enjoyed reading about your home grown produce MrsReid. I don't really have the time or the space to grow fruit or veg, but I've got very fond memories of my grandparents garden. They used to grow all sorts, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, beetroot, runner beans tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, apples. I can still remember how delicious those apples used to taste...so different to those ones you buy in the shops.

I've been struggling a bit with low energy this week, a combination of peri menopause and the fluctuating temperatures has taken its toll on my sleep pattern and I'm either boiling hot or freezing cold! I'm going away this weekend with friends so looking forward to the break and just being in the company of other women. We're staying right near the beach so I'm hoping to go for some swims in the sea.

Speakout I hope you enjoy your full moon circle. Mine are held on the new moon so last one was a couple of weeks ago. I find it interesting how at each one the energy is very different and there always seems to be a common theme or thread running through the group. The August one was really joyous and felt like a celebration of the summer, whereas the mood this time was quieter and more reflective . It's wonderful to see how women, many who don't really know each other, come together and support one another. Powerful stuff!

EmmaH2022 · 05/10/2022 22:26

speakout your work sounds amazing

queenrollo I found having brighter light overall was more helpful than a SAD lamp, just a thought.

sorry ladies, I know I ask often but if you have any good vibes for this sad and very lonely pagan tonight, they would be much appreciated xx

hilariousnamehere · 06/10/2022 00:06

Sending good thoughts your way @EmmaH2022 - everything can seem darker and harder as the nights draw in, I think. I hope you're ok.

@speakout I'm so glad my drawing inspired you! I hope you have lots of happy evenings with your sketchbook 😁

@MsReid that is incredible! I manage to kill mint (several years running) so am a bit awestruck by your list.

Flying visit from me this evening and I should be in bed already really, I am as always manic (does that ever get better? I suspect I'm the only one who can make that happen argh) so sending you all love as I dash!
