Questions for the hijabis of MN

Assalam Alaykoum! 🙂

I have a question but I'm a little embarrassed of asking the people in my life....

I am a convert and have been considering cover my hair. My issue is that I can get quite claustrophobic with fabric around my neck and also I don't know if I'm completely ready to stop wearing tshirts. My clothing has become more modest. I think it's a slow progress for me....

Anyways, so what would you think if you saw someone covering their hair but wearing like a tshirt?.... would you say I need to wait until I feel ready to do everything?

Thank you for reading

i would say go at your own pace and do what is right for you
maybe you could think about a Pakistani-style scarf they do not have to be tired around the neck, on some Islamic clothes sites you can buy arm covers if you have short sleeves

Walikum Salam,
I know how you feel as I'm a revert too many many years ago, I was faced with the same questions. As for the hijab nowadays you get ones that are already made, which feels a bit loose on the neck, so you don't experience the tight feeling around your neck.

You can buy arm covers as the previous poster mentioned, or maybe could wear long cotton top as they are more breathable. At the end of the day go at your own pace remember a Muslim doesn't burden themselves.

W.s. Go at your own pace as mentioned above. It's a massive decision deciding to cover your hair. Certain materials irritate my neck too but I just kinda put up with it. There's so many beautiful styles you can try. If you decide to go through with it just have a play about and find one comfortable for yourself. I have a nurse friend who wears it turban style during her shifts because it's so hot in hospitals. I'm not strictly always 'modestly' dressed myself and do occasionally wear t-shirts and short sleeves. I know what the rulings say but no one has ever said anything to me about it and frankly it's no one's business or place to say anything to anyone. Good luck x

Salaam :)

I wouldn’t judge at all, but I would say you need to be comfortable in your journey and not worry about what others think.

Becoming more observant in Islam is not a vertical journey! as long as you keep reading, and keep trying - it will come together for you.

Wearing the hijab can be a challenge even when you are a ‘born’ Muslim; everyone finds their way to it in their own way, and finds a way to deal with their own challenges to embrace it.

All the best!
