Sikhism

I wonder if there are any members of the Sikh faith here ?

The more I learn about Sikhism, the more I find a lot of it chime with my own beliefs, equality etc. However, I am white British with no obvious connection to Sikhism, ( aside from Sikh friends).

Is it possible to explore converting to Sikhism ? I get the feeling it is a religion that doesn't particularly seek converts.

Why not visit a Sikh temple and take it from there?

Me!

Anyone can become a Sikh, unlike some abrahamic religions there isn’t really a specific ceremony to confirm your Sikhness.

Thanks @Simonjt.

I guess, because it's not a "usual," path, I'd be worried some people would be suspicious that it was a phase/ for attention etc.

Obviously I would not be rushing into anything but I'd say a lot of the Sikh values seem to chime most with my idea of God, ( e.g. that reincarnation, do not have to a Sikh to reunite with God, one God without gender or form etc), and the values on equality/ vegetarianism/ social action seem to chime with my values, m( or what I'd like my values to be, I'm far from perfect !)

You can follow Sikh beliefs and teachings without being a Sikh!

People do "convert" to Sikhism, but yes we do not actively do this, however we re more than happy to share knowledge if asked.
As a religion as have had a history of oppression and faced racism etc and i find he historical aspects fascinating.
Anyone is welcome to visit a Sikh Gurdwara and some, particularly those wih younger members, are able to help guide you.
Basics of Sikhi is a good place to start and also from a personal level I found that Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Smethwick (Birmingham) does sometimes host online discussions/translations in in English which you may find helpful.

Also to add, becoming a baptised Sikh is a process, (FIL was 50 when he was baptised, he wears a turban, kirpan and various symbols of faith).
I was born into a Sikh family but have come to start my journey in my mid-30s. This is alot in part due to the busy way of life sadly taking precedence, but I'm drawn to my religion more now. Apologies for rambling, currently quite poorly.
