There seems to be some confusion here in London, some relatives celebrating tomorrow, others on Saturday. Just wondered what everyone else was doing.

Today, Eid Saeed!!!

StrawberryMartini · 12/10/2007 07:26

Hi - I childmind a muslim boy (aged 4). Is there anything I could do with him this afternoon (arty/crafty) that he could take home?

ThreadyKrueger · 12/10/2007 07:30

Out of interest, does anyone mind telling me why is it difficult to establish which day it falls on?

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 12/10/2007 08:03

Today!!! The moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia last night

Eid Mubarak

fuzzywuzzy · 12/10/2007 08:49

Because ThreadyKruger, nobody can decide which moon was sighted where...it was touch and go there for a moment for us as well, the moon was sighted over Dagenham shortly after dusk prayers, however, it wasn't sighted in Hackney for several hours thereafter (or maybe it was just my parents mosque that didnt see it), thankfully we will be celbrating Eid together as every year......

But yeah our mosque follows the moon sightings that happen in KSA, we should actually just do our own moon sighting....you know, sit on the rooves with telescopes like!!!

fuzzywuzzy · 12/10/2007 08:50

Strawberrymartini, how about making an Eid card with your mindee??

saadia · 12/10/2007 09:03

Eid Mubarak everyone, we will celebrate both days. Local mosques are saying it's tomorrow but all my family in N London are celebrating today so there we are.

Good plan but what would I put on it apart from Eid Mubarak?

ThreadyKrueger · 12/10/2007 09:29

Thanks fuzzywuzzy. Still not sure I quite get it -- but then I've never quite understood the moving Easter thing either. Anyway, hope you all have a fantastic day!

madness · 12/10/2007 09:34

o, well,I have been telling them at school(no MuslIm children) it's tomorrow...

As regards EAster I was told by my mum, it's the first sunday after full moon after spring has started. DH keeps asking me about it as well

fuzzywuzzy · 12/10/2007 10:21

strawberryMartini, how about a crescent moon, flowers whatever you like really, I'm sure the parents will be thrilled.

The eid that marks the end of the month of ramadan occurs at the end of the previous lunar month. Eid marks the new lunar month which should begin with the sighting of the new moon signifying the end of the previous month.
Islamic months are lunar months.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 12/10/2007 21:04

Mmmm at food! DS hasn't settled yet so am upstairs on the 'puter waiting for him to drop off before I make something to eat!

ThreadyKrueger · 13/10/2007 06:26

Fuzztwuzzy. Just read that last explanation. Now all is clear. Thanks. Sorry to crash in.

littleducks · 13/10/2007 08:16

Ha ha, to put a cat among the pigeons we are celebrating on sunday, though it does upset me that there cannot be just the one Eid, i have been researching moon sightings since last year when there was a big difference of opinion!

There have been alot of 'sightings' of the new moon on the day it would be written on an English calendar, but i have discovered that a new moon is actually a black sky (the opposite of a full moon).

One site that is clear is moonsighting.com/ although i do try to consult sites that have no agenda when it comes to Eid but just are run by astrologers as it were.
